Sexism Against Conservative Women is Still Sexism!

Jun 9, 2009 | 29 Comments

(Cross posted at The Huffington Post.)
When is sexism acceptable? The answer should be never. Yet for many feminists in our country, only certain types of women have been worth defending. When a conservative woman is the target of an attack, many so-called feminists stay silent. This “selective sexism”, or speaking out against sexism on a case by case basis, does not advance our national dialogue on women’s issues. Rather, selective sexism allows a dangerous level of permissible sexism to live and breed in our country. The only …

WHO KNEW?
Who knew that in just 9 months, The New Agenda would become a national movement?
Who knew that The New Agenda would create excitement and enthusiasm from women and men around the country – who for the first time saw hope for making the country a better place for their daughters and granddaughters.
Who knew that a PTA mom would tell us that she was praying that The New Agenda could change our country so that her daughter would be safe by time she got to middle school.
NOW IT’S TIME TO …

Let’s Build Something

May 31, 2009 | No Comment

Jaymee Coonce
Congratulations to the women of the Franklin Bridge highway overpass project along I-84 in Idaho, recently completed ahead of schedule. Although women make up less that 10% of the construction industry, they served as three project managers for the bridge: Jayme Coonce, transportation department; Kadee Porter, general contractor; and Rita Wilson; design. Fox12 Idaho quoted Porter:
The best part of my job is seeing something get built from the ground up. Something that’s going to benefit the public. Something that’s going to stand for many, many years.
We’re building something at …

6th grade girls strategize on killing a classmate

May 29, 2009 | One Comment

Our daughters are watching us!
UNITY!
Sisters – I am going to keep asking and asking. Can we lay down our arms, and instead join together arm in arm and move forward?
You’ve heard me preaching about unity on our blog here and here. And I’m going to keep going and try to win over women and like minded men one by one and here is why: our next generation is watching!
Last weekend, the media reported a story about a 6th grader named Piper Smith. Seems some of the …

James Carville Defends RNC’s Video Comparing Pelosi to “Pussy Galore”

May 28, 2009 | 10 Comments

Democratic strategist and CNN commentator James Carville defended the producer of the Republican National Committee’s video that likens House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the James Bond villain “Pussy Galore,” and railed against The New Agenda for protesting the video. Speaking on CNN’s Situation Room, Carville said:
It’s a YouTube, stupid, that’s all it is. And this New Agenda Crowd, they need to get a new agenda… This guy was just having a good time. He did absolutely nothing wrong…
OK, I lied. James Carville did and said no such thing. Or rather, he said …

Why we should EVEN have Nancy Pelosi’s back…

May 27, 2009 | 24 Comments

Score a victory for women!
Within 24 hours of The New Agenda issuing a press release and action alert about the RNC’s below the belt “Pussy Galore” video attacking Nancy Pelosi, the RNC had the good sense to pull it down. As one member wrote:  “See how little it takes to get people to stop doing what they know is wrong? Too bad we weren’t properly mobilized in January of 2008. ” Too bad indeed!  But we’re ready now (remember to donate if you can while we build out …

Get ready for the Sotomayor misogyny-fest

May 26, 2009 | 13 Comments

Imagine a time when a female candidate for a position of power is actually judged on her merits. That moment is coming. It’s called The New Agenda.
On the back of the Sotomayor nomination, the Washington Post writes Women’s Groups Vow to Fight for Swift Confirmation. Which women’s group is the first to be mentioned? The New Agenda:
The New Agenda, a nonpartisan group formed during last year’s presidential campaigns, hailed the selection as “inspirational” and pronounced itself “thrilled” that four of the 10 women it suggested for …

TNA co-founder Nancy Hopkins speaks out on Sotomayor

May 26, 2009 | 3 Comments

Co-founder Nancy Hopkins
Nancy Hopkins is an MIT biology professor – a leader in her field and one of The New Agenda co-founders. Last month Hopkins was awarded one of Women’s eNews 2009 21 Leaders for the 21st Century – a distinction shared with Lily Ledbetter. Hopkins knows what it’s like to be in a field dominated by men who are highly educated and smart, but often clueless about gender. Hopkins was in the audience when Larry Summers famously stated that girls are genetically inferior to men when it comes …
