Saudi Women Will Get to Vote
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Earlier this year, Saudi women started a movement to be allowed to drive. It sounds ridiculous — that women cannot get behind the wheel of a car and drive — and yet this is their reality. Although there is no actual law that says women are not allowed to drive cars, there is a religious edict that insists on the segregation of men and women; therefore, if women need to get anywhere, a man …

How the Media Train Boys to be Sexist
The following post is cross-posted by Erin McNeill’s blog Marketing, Media, and Childhood. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Watch this trailer from the Media Education Foundation, which highlights the powerful messages boys are getting from current popular media. Or, as they put it, “Takes aim at the forces in male culture that condition boys and men to dehumanize and disrespect women.”
The issue with negative media messages to our children, as I see it, is not so much how those …

Scott Brown, the American Federation of Teachers and The Myth of the B*tch Queen
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Here’s a riddle: What do Elizabeth Warren, Hillary Clinton, Sarah Palin, Michele Bachmann, Nancy Pelosi, Maxine Waters and Patty Murray have in common? Well, they all descend from royalty of course! Or at least that’s how their adversaries would classify them.
Elizabeth Warren was recently coined “Queen Elizabeth” by the Scott Brown campaign when they registered a ‘Queen Elizabeth Warren’ website in anticipation of the Senate race.
In a 2009 article, Andrew Sullivan mockingly referred to …

Greta Interviews Tucker Carlson About Controversial Tyson Post
Cross-posted from Sheya.com with the permission of the author. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Both Greta and Tucker make good arguments. Tucker makes a good argument that had this story been about any other Democrat women it would have been national headlines. Greta makes a good argument that the editors note in the post came a little too late.
What Tucker doesn’t get is that while the story would have been national news had it been about Hillary Clinton, the …

So, the truth comes out about what it’s like to work as a woman in the White House. In Ron Suskind’s new upcoming book, Confidence Men, Women in Obama’s White House felt excluded and ignored:
A new book claims that the Obama White House is a boys’ club marred by rampant infighting that has hindered the administration’s economic policy and left top female advisers …

A Message To Women From A Man: You Are Not “Crazy”
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
You’re so sensitive. You’re so emotional. You’re defensive. You’re overreacting. Calm down. Relax. Stop freaking out! You’re crazy! I was just joking, don’t you have a sense of humor? You’re so dramatic. Just get over it already!
Sound familiar?
If you’re a woman, it probably does.
Do you ever hear any of these comments from your spouse, partner, boss, friends, colleagues, or relatives after you have expressed frustration, sadness, or anger about something they have done or …

The Mrs. Degree
The following article is cross-post with the express permission from the blog Female Science Professor. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
In days of yore, when I was in graduate school, I was asked by a senior professor whether I was in graduate school because I couldn’t find anyone to marry me.
According to a recent e-mail message from a reader, some professors are still asking young women questions about their education/career decisions in the context of …

Danica Patrick Competes to Succeed, Despite NASCAR’s Sexist Environment
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
NASCAR is divided into three parts: the Truck Series, the Nationwide Series (much like a minor league) and the Sprint Cup (the Major leagues). Although there are women competing in each level, none has more fame than Danica Patrick.
Patrick formerly was a competitor in “Indy” style racing, but announced a few days ago that she would be concentrating all her efforts next year towards competing in the Nationwide Series. Along with Jo Cobb, …
