TNA’s Amy Siskind to participate in Liz Claiborne’s 8th Annual “IT’S TIME TO TALK DAY” – Tune in!
LIZ CLAIBORNE INC. and its partners, including The New Agenda Foundation, will join forces today for the 8th Annual “It’s Time to Talk Day” as a way to encourage greater public dialogue about domestic violence.
Around the country, talk radio, government officials, domestic violence advocates, businesses, schools and the public-at-large take a moment – or more – to talk openly about an issue that affects nearly one in three women at some point in their lifetime. In fact, millions of talk radio listeners around the country …

Make a change, be the change
Guest post written by 8th grade student Chandler Waldal, the daughter of the author. The following article is cross-post with the express permission from the blog ElinStebbinsWaldal. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Punching, Slapping,
Shooting, Strangling,
Killing;
Actions that take part in relationship violence;
Day by day,
Around the world, are girls,
Victims,
Abused by their lovers;
Their “soul mates”;
Minute by minute,
Innocent women
Dying,
Suffering,
Crying;
Shredded to pieces,
Left scattered in the wind;
Feeling shame and humiliation,
Nowhere to turn to;
No one to tell,
Just lost in the unknown.

Penn State Shocker. Really?
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda. The following article is cross-posted from The Huffington Post.
Details of the Penn State sex abuse case have horrified us. And when ongoing Grand Jury probes and many more graphic accounts of a coach allegedly engaged in acts of sodomy and oral sex with minors emerge, a collective disgust will once again sweep the nation. The mainline story is a trusted member of the school and neighborhood community criminally misusing his stature to lure …

New Anti-Sex Trafficking Law Blames Pimps, Not Girls
Chris Allen, founder of the Innocence Atlanta campaign, defines sex trafficking as “Fraud, Force, and Coercion” (Spornhauer, 2011). This definition aptly places the blame of sex trafficking upon the johns and pimps who profit from the use of girls for sex. In most cases, however, the girls being trafficked are looked upon as the vermin of society. They are shunned and arrested and used up and tossed aside without regard to their humanity or rights, while the johns and pimps who degrade them get, not only anonymity, but also leniency for the …

Why I Hate TV Shows About Hating Teenage Daughters
Hardly a week goes by without a Facebook friend posting one of those messages about the love they have for their daughters. While I’m typically not one to repost these updates, they now strike me less as genuine – if somewhat sentimental – proclamations than as unwitting political statements. They assert that regardless of what we read, what we hear, or how many times we are forced to listen to some ridiculous riposte about “mean girls”, we love our daughters. And we want to let the world – or at least our Facebook …

Gender Balance in Films?
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
A recent study published by the Walter Annenberg Communications Institute at USC (researchers Stacy Smith, Marc Chouetti and Stephanie Gall) was recently released. The study surveyed the top 100 grossing films for the year 2009. The results are revealing. The researchers examined 4,342 speaking roles. Of these roles, 32.8% were female and 67.2% were men (evidencing the ratios of genders in films – a topic for another article) or approximately a 2.5/1 male -female …

Why I Care

Let me get straight to the point here. I’ve had enough. There are days when I feel completely worn out by what I see in the news and days when I feel ready to scream and fight. I completely understood what Eve Ensler meant in her article “Over It” that appeared on the Huffington Post yesterday. I’m angry as hell and I’m not at all …

Behind Closed Doors
“He said … A man’s home is his castleIt always has been and so it remains…But he holds the keys in a fist of rageHis home is his castleAnd mine is a cage.”
The recent video posted on YouTube by 23-year-old Hillary Adams shows that her father, Judge William Adams, beat her with a belt and admonished her with explicit language has, like it or not, taken all who viewed it behind closed doors, and taken all beyond hearing the refrain from Faith Hill’s song, out of the darkness and into …

Scandals Colored Republican, Democrat, and Women: Herman Cain, Bill Clinton, John Edwards, and Newt Gingrich
The following article by The New Agenda Board Member Lara Brown is also featured at The Huffington Post.
"Sharon Bialek speaks during a news conference accusing Republican presidential hopeful Herman Cain of sexual harassment in New York, November 7, 2011." (Reuters/Yahoo)
“Because I could”, said Bill Clinton about Monica. It’s doubtful that truer words have been spoken on the subject of how some men in positions of power behave around women.
In some cases the “could” is a one-way sexual attraction involving offensive and brutish behavior (Cain pulling Ms. Bialek’s “head towards his …
