12 Telling Stats on Female MBAs

May 16, 2012 | No Comment

The following article is cross-post with permission from the author. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.

Just a few decades ago, the thought of a woman owning a business or running a large multi-national company might have drawn sneers or snickers in the business world (and might still from those who are less enlightened), but luckily things have by and large changed for the better for women in business. Today, women own about 29% of all businesses in the United States …

The Teslas and Newtons of history have already received enough attention, thank you very much. Ever since science started being a thing, the ladies have always played an integral role in keeping human knowledge marching forward, they just lacked the same social and political standings as their male contemporaries, therefore ranking far lower on the public relations hierarchy. Every March marks Women’s History Month, which honors …

The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Women have slowly but surely made their way into the corporate world over the last few decades. Still, only 18 women are running Fortune 500 companies. These female CEOs have broken the gender barriers in business, but not without many years of hard work, rejections, and slow promotions. Here are the 10 most successful female CEOs of all-time:

Sexism 2010: Riding the Coattails of 2008

Oct 17, 2010 | 23 Comments

The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Back in 2008 then candidate Obama benefited greatly from sexism and misogyny thrown at his female opponents, Hillary Clinton and later Sarah Palin. The Obama campaign didn’t only benefit from this onslaught of sexism – they used it to their full advantage. His campaign threw out sexist statements such as “suddenly the claws come out” when referring to Hillary Clinton, then there was the “You can put lipstick on a pig” quote after McCain’s …

Last week, although mostly unknown, women made history – many miles away!
Four women set a new record for the most women in space at the same time. Tracy Caldwell Dyson, Naoko Yamazaki, Stephanie Wilson, and Dorothy Metcalf-Lindenburger launched NASA’s Discovery shuttle from the International Space Station that took off last Monday.
The record comes on the 47th anniversary that Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman astronaut orbited space. And, coincidentally on …

Sarah Palin “Leading the Stampede” of Women

Apr 10, 2010 | 20 Comments

The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
How befitting is it that just days ago, Amy Siskind called on Palin to embrace her gender. This week, she’s begun to capitalize on women’s outrage, and with that she may be painting that once red elephant, pink, all the way to 2012.
Some people wouldn’t put a conservative like Sarah Palin under the traditional feminist category. Then again, is there such a thing as a traditional feminist? Leave it …

Have Public Schools Forgotten Women’s History Month?

Mar 13, 2010 | 24 Comments

The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
In school, we had just last month celebrated Black History Month. There were speaker announcements, newspaper articles and classroom discussions all commemorating the importance and history behind the month. This week was “language week” where my school hung posters, had announcements given in foreign languages and held activities for those learning a foreign language. Next week will be “random acts of kindness week”. One thing is surely being disregarded …
