Why I went on local TV to discuss teen dating violence and eating disorders

Feb 19, 2011 | No Comment

I’ll admit: I was shocked.
After TNA released episode 3 of Searching for Sexism, Their Eyes Are Watching, I discovered that my daughter’s middle school curriculum does not cover teen dating violence and eating disorders. And I’m not alone.   I’ve received emails from concerned parents all around the country who watched the video, called their school, and heard the same news!
Which is why TNA is doing something about it!
Please watch this local television interview on what parents can do to protect their children (skip to 9:15 for segment on …

Rachel Maddow’s “aha” moment (which she doesn’t realize she had)…

Feb 15, 2011 | 10 Comments

I find Rachel Maddow to be incredibly brilliant.  Which is why I am constantly perplexed by her gender blinders. She is a study in contrast. She’ll advocate for positions (some) that are pro-women, yet she seems blind to gender bias and generally disinterested in gender representation.
I’m thinking in the segment below she just might have had an “aha” moment. Although, for sure, she doesn’t realize it.
Watch as Maddow speaks about the Republican women in Wyoming and how, due to their own life experiences, they understand the real …

Huffington Gets Palin-ized

Feb 11, 2011 | 13 Comments

The following op-ed is featured at The Daily Caller.
You’ve really done it this time Arianna Huffington.  You’ve violated the unwritten rules of our culture.  Rose above our comfort zone.  Now, sadly, we must destroy you.  But don’t take it personally.  It’s simply because, well, you’re a woman.
Here’s how we’ll do it…
First, we’ll need to create a caricature.  Something we can use to demean and diminish you – and right away!  Distract you and get that darn hammer away from the glass ceiling.  Hmmm, let’s see.  Which tools haven’t been …

Two years later, some justice in the beheading of Aasiya Hassan

Feb 9, 2011 | 6 Comments

On Monday, a jury found New York TV Muzzammil “Mo” Hassan guilty of second-degree murder. His crime: beheading his wife, Aasiya Hassan.
Finally!
The beheading occurred two years ago, when The New Agenda was a new organization.  What shocked me most was this:  other women’s group and women’s advocates refused to speak out at the time (other than Phyllis Chesler who thankfully shouted from the roof tops and then some).  Or if they did, they were careful, on grounds of moral relativism, to not label this murder for what it …

Why does MSNBC tolerate Chris Matthews’ misogyny?

Jan 27, 2011 | 13 Comments

The following op-ed by The New Agenda’s Amy Siskind is featured at The Daily Caller.
Well, apparently Chris Matthews missed President’s Obama’s Tucson Memorial Speech.  The speech in which the President called for civility and toning down of rhetoric. Either that, or Matthews prefers to ignore it!
On the eve of the SOTU, Chris Matthews was back on familiar ground:  demeaning women in power. Matthew’s latest target:  Congresswoman Michele Bachmann.   In fact, Matthews got so wound up in his misogyny, that he lost his composure and control.  He refers to Congresswoman Bachmann …

After Arizona, will Obama learn to include women?

Jan 14, 2011 | 15 Comments

I was moved and touched by the Arizona Memorial Service on Wednesday night.  In part by President Obama’s speech, but a bigger part was the surrounding cast of women.  Governor Brewer’s hopeful speech and Secretary Napolitano’s reading from the Old Testament.  The miraculous story of Congresswoman Giffords opening her eyes for the first time during a visit from her friends Senator Gillibrand and Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz.
For a moment, I was in a trance – hypnotized by the thought of gender equality in our leadership.  Then I snapped back to reality.
Yes, …
