For Mother’s Day… An Appreciation
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
My mom has long been my heroine. With her tireless work ethic, impish sense of humor and a style that makes her look like Saks Fifth Avenue on a Woolworth budget, she never ceases to inspire. I wrote this poem for “Toni” but I share it with moms everywhere.
Thank you for all you do.

Due Credit to Madam Secretary
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
United State’s arch-enemy Bin Ladin is finally captured and killed. Unfortunately even this unexpectedly good news did not stop the media from undermining one of the most powerful women in America, Hillary Clinton.
The dead silence of the media about her role in the decision making, planning and implementation of the raid to capture Bin Ladin as the Secretary of State is appalling. On top of it, the only coverage that mentions Mrs. Clinton’s …

Bin Laden may be dead but, as many have noted, his ideology is still very much alive. Indeed, it landed on our shores long ago. It is now most definitely here.

Batgate or how my mother fought the Big Boy
Reprinted from the blog Mothering Heights with the express permission of the author and blogmaster. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
“The Governor really went after you,” I said to my mom as she got off the plane from New Jersey to Los Angeles. She sort of looked at me quizzically and said, “I guess that’s why I have 30 messages on my voice mail.”
I glanced at the Google alert on my phone while stopping my children from going up …

Girl Power in ‘Sucker Punch’, ‘Hanna’, and ‘Winter’s Bone’
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
In the past year, directors have been trying to feed our womanist pangs for more girl power in films. At least this is how I see the trend. Because as a woman and a mother, I want to see movies that represent my gender as empowered, important, and intelligent. I want to see them as real and as true and valued members of society. I want to have faith in humanity — in this …

Why Bridesmaids Is Important
Reprinted from The Huffington Post with the express permission of actress and writer Jamie Denbo. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
The newest, big budget comedy to come from the cool comedy club stars funny ladies, Kristen Wiig, Annie Mumolo, Melissa McCarthy, Maya Rudolph, Ellie Kemper, Rose Byrne and Wendi McClendon-Covey, and is directed by the magnificent, Paul Feig (Freaks & Geeks).
And it’s F#$%@@ING HILARIOUS.
Bridesmaids is not a “chick flick”. It’s a “flick” that happens to have chicks in it. …

Not Just a Grumpy Old Man, But a Sexist: Donald Rumsfeld
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Donald RumsfeldAlthough not a big fan of Condoleezza Rice, I wanted to write a piece to congratulate her for speaking up against Donald Rumsfeld’s criticism of her abilities as a Secretary of State under the Bush Administration in a recent news article in Yahoo News.
Rumsfeld wrote in his book Known and Unknown that Ms. Rice “almost never wanted” to dissent to President George W. Bush. He also asserted in several interviews that Rice was …

It is royalty time in Sweden 1644, when Christina is crowned as king
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Just in time for the European royalty media feast, we found at a library book sale the diaries of a female ruler – Christina of Sweden – who had no interest in marriage (Scholastics series, by Carolyn Meyer).
Enjoy the story of Christina of Sweden (1626-1689).
Finally, after several miscarriages, Gustav Adolf II of Sweden and his German wife Eleanore had their first and only child Christina. A prophecy predicted the child would be a son. …
