The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
When news of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was first aired, the reports were confusing and sometimes contradictory. Some news reports stated she had died, but other reports had stated she had survived. Sheppard Smith said her type of injury had a 5% survival rating. Greta van Susteren attempted to untangle the conflicting reports.
We now know that Congresswoman Giffords is alive and is recovering well. With such a low percentage of survivors …

This Has Got to Stop!
The cycle continues.
Our media has once again managed to stir the embers of hatred.
The New Agenda has been very careful NOT to bring politics into the Arizona shooting. Why? Because, as of today, there is not a single iota of evidence that politics played a role in the actions of a clearly mentally disturbed man.
Now things have shifted, thanks to our media. Now politics does play a role. Sarah Palin and her family are getting death threats. This time, blame can be assigned. Outlets like The Huffington Post, The New …

Heroic Woman Helps save Lives in Shooting Rampage
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Patricia Maisch is a low key woman whose quick thinking helped save lives on Saturday in Tucson when a Congressional “meet and greet” became a shooting gallery. In an interview, Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik stated that “for whatever reason, she decided that something had to be done. She came out of line and tackled the magazine and the gun this guy was holding. She might have saved many, many lives.”
To hear Maisch recount …

Murdered Girl Had Political Aspirations, Was Symbol of American Life
I will never forget the day of Oklahoma City Bombing. My daughter was 2 at the time, and was at her on-site daycare when I heard the horrific news that The Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City had been hit, including their on-site daycare. Watching the news as the emergency responders pulled so many toddler bodies out of the wreckage really hit home. I wept and immediately left work to gather my baby in my arms, filled with the bittersweet knowledge that but for the grace of something, we were …

Gabrielle Giffords and the Danger for Women Leaders
A picture is worth a thousand words.
I’m always struck by the power of a picture. I’m relatively new to writing, but the first time I felt this power was in February 2009. I wrote about the murder of Aasiya Hassan. The Daily Beast selected the graphic, but once it was up, I couldn’t take my eyes off of it. I kept going back to look again and again. I would stare at the photo of Aasiya for minutes on end, often with tears in my eyes. I …

Naomi Wolf continues her Rapist Advocacy: Shielding Rape Accusers
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
In her articles in The Huffington Post, Naomi Wolfe has mounted a full scale defense of Julian Assange and a campaign to minimize his alleged victims. This misguided attempt to clear the name of her hero reflects her world view; the world is black and white, no shades of gray, no complex issues, no attempt to mull over the fact a person can do good and bad.
Naomi is blinded by Assange’s “celebrity” status and …
