Is the US Press Deaf to Women’s Voices?

Jan 19, 2011 | 10 Comments

Is the US press deaf to women’s voices? You betcha! Six female Nobel Prize winners from all over the world join the voices of thousands and millions of women in the state of Chihuahua for the murder of a mother who demanded justice for the murder of her own daughter. And I can’t find this in the US press.
Why hasn’t the US press covered the voices of 6 female Nobel prize winners… on a matter that affects women in a particular place, but that to a greater or lesser degree …

‘Naughty’ Golden Globes: Are Hollywood Men Just Getting Warmed Up?

Jan 18, 2011 | 8 Comments

Based on my admittedly informal survey, a lot of entertainment bloggers really liked Robert Downey Jr’s. riff about sex with actresses at last night’s Golden Globes, calling it the funniest moment in a largely unfunny evening.  I agree the broadcast was a train wreck, but casting Downey as the evening’s savior?
Call me a sad and sorry, sexless, you-know-what – and roll you’re eyes and tell me to lighten up, if you must — the “naughty and hilarious” Downey got the predictable cheap laugh you always get when you sexualize women who …

1/11/11 BLOG PROTEST SUCCEEDS! Check out Media story…

Jan 17, 2011 | 2 Comments

Our 1/11/11 Women’s Blogger Protest was a success! President Obama has been forced to defend his record with women!
FOX News reports:
Based on a recent blog posting to the White House website, it seems the administration is trying to shed the image of a boy’s club at the White House.
The Obama administration has been criticized for sticking to an old Washington stereotype that at the highest levels, the president only surrounds himself with men.
Friday they released on the White House blog a posting with a photo gallery titled, “Women and Girls …

Ending Divisiveness: Are Women Better at Bipartisanship?

Jan 17, 2011 | 3 Comments

A quick thought:  What if all the men in Congress took a long weekend – just a few days off —  and left the women to do the people’s business without them?   True, there wouldn’t be very many left roaming the halls of Congress, given the paucity of women in either the House or the Senate.  But, would there be less partisanship?
Given the times, women are far from immune to partisanship, whether or not they hold office.  But, women in Congress are acutely aware of their minority status and how hard …

Be careful, they can hear you…

Jan 15, 2011 | 2 Comments

The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.

If you say it enough times with enough vigor eventually they will hear it (and believe it).  It’s okay, right?  Explain how the bitch deserved it.  We didn’t mean you honey…at least not today.

After Arizona, will Obama learn to include women?

Jan 14, 2011 | 15 Comments

I was moved and touched by the Arizona Memorial Service on Wednesday night.  In part by President Obama’s speech, but a bigger part was the surrounding cast of women.  Governor Brewer’s hopeful speech and Secretary Napolitano’s reading from the Old Testament.  The miraculous story of Congresswoman Giffords opening her eyes for the first time during a visit from her friends Senator Gillibrand and Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz.
For a moment, I was in a trance – hypnotized by the thought of gender equality in our leadership.  Then I snapped back to reality.
Yes, …

Mr. President, Show Us the Women!

Jan 14, 2011 | 2 Comments

Obama and His Economic Advisors
Graphic compliments of Optixmom.
This article has been cross-posted from Peacocks and Lilies.
Today we protest the gender imbalance within the Obama Administration. As TNA president Amy Siskind rightfully notes, the President’s scorecard when it comes to women is very poor:

Obama’s cabinet picks are just 25% women.
Obama’s czars are only 12% women.
No women have leadership roles in running our country’s economy.
Obama has only one woman in his inner-circle:  Valerie Jarrett.

ATTENTION WOMEN BLOGGERS!!! (and men bloggers who love us) – on 1/11/11, please join The New Agenda in expressing your public displeasure with Obama’s choices of Daley and Sperling – an inner circle *still* composed almost exclusively of men.  Every major leadership position in running our country’s economy is held by a white men.
