UPDATE: The Washington Post is reporting that Obama will likely announce his new chief economic adviser on Friday.

===
The New Agenda is urging President Obama to pick from a list of qualified women to join his economic team – a team that is sorely lacking in women!

Our suggested list of candidates include (in alphabetical order):

Brooksley Born
Ursula Burns
Zoe Cruz
Anne Mulcahy
Laura Tyson

You can hear The New Agenda’s Amy Siskind speak out on this issue on NPR’s All Things Considered and Marketplace Public Radio here.

You can also read POLITICO ( Female CEO sought for Summers’ job) The New Agenda calling on President Obama to replace Larry Summers with a qualified woman.

“[Obama] does not seem to understand the need for diversity and gender balance,” said Siskind, who founded The New Agenda, a group focused on the appointment of women to positions of power in business, government and the media.

“We see time and time again in corporate America that companies that have a gender balance perform better.”

Very interesting! I missed this whole Larry Summers news somehow. It’s nice to start the day out with hopeful news and we will all be watching Obama.

Summers could be replaced by a flatworm and it would be a step up.

    Optixmom,

Be careful what you want, you might get it!

I wouldn’t take the position because obama should have done this from the beginning. Instead, he brings in 2 of the men (Gueitner and Summers) who helped create the economic mess we are now in. If I recall, 3 women economists did warn the boyz about the impending implosion of the economy but were basically told to “shut up”.

Any woman who accepts this position is in danger of being left holding the bag, if she doesn’t succeed and will become obama’s convenient scapegoat, while the culprits responsible will be all but forgotten and given a free pass.

Any woman who seriously considers accepting this position, should follow General Petraus’s example and make certain that she is doing so with preconditions and clear understanding with the administration and the American people that she be given the freedom to talk directly to the American people as to what’s wrong, what she proposes may fix it and the consequences, if her proposals don’t get the support by the obama administration that they should, in order to succeed. Otherwise, the woman who accepts this position will be exploited and thrown under the bus to protect obama from being held accountable for appointing Gueitner and Summers in the first place.

I want women in positions of power, but not this way. I just don’t trust obama and his thugs.
