New York Magazine’s Inappropriate Cover!
The cover of the latest issue of New York Magazine shows a (thankfully) blurry image of a teen (or possibly tween) girl wearing red g-string underwear and pulling up her shirt. Her body, from her scanty underwear to her arms crossed over her breast, is bear. It’s a pedophiliac’s delight! The title is “Porn and Junior-High Culture,” which is exactly what the cover is: junior-high porn!
Please watch Episode 3 of Searching for Sexism, Their Eyes are Watching when it is released tomorrow. It’s an important statement on how our …

Education: Mother’s Rights Threatened by Government
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Here is one major reason why parents should liberate our schools from government and union control: when organizations instead of individuals control our school systems, the organization will impose its own biases, prejudices, and values upon the students. Because the responsibility of education often falls to the mother, women become the main targets and have their rights violated when the controlling organization does not approve of their decisions.
Kelley Williams-Bolar was a single mother in …

Self-Defense for Women, Lisbeth Salander Style
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
This past year, I have fallen in love with Lisbeth Salander, one of the most riveting, exciting, tough, and empowered literary heroines ever created. And what kills me is that a man conjured her up, giving her skills, smarts, and strength with which to defend herself against a misogynistic andviolent society that targets women and their supposed frailty. Lisbeth Salander might be less than five feet tall, but she fights back physically and intellectually, her instincts for …

Anorexia Claims Another Victim
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
The mother of French model Isabelle Caro committed suicide; Marie Caro’s death was attributed to her depression over her daughter’s death from anorexia. Isabelle Caro died in mid November from complications of anorexia, which she battled most of her life. While Caro was very close to her mother, she felt that her mother’s phobia with growth and growing up was a factor in her battle with anorexia. By not eating, Caro could remain a …

Women are a strong force behind push for rule of law in Egypt
The opinions expressed herein and those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
According to Slate’s XX, women are acting as a strong backbone in the ongoing overthrow of President Mubarak’s broken regime:
An unprecedented number of Egyptian women participated in Tuesday’s anti-government protests. Ghada Shahbandar, an activist with the Egyptian Organization for Human Rights, estimated the crowd downtown to be 20 percent female. Other estimates were as high as 50 percent. In past protests, the female presence would rarely rise to 10 percent. Protests have a reputation …

Why does MSNBC tolerate Chris Matthews’ misogyny?
The following op-ed by The New Agenda’s Amy Siskind is featured at The Daily Caller.
Well, apparently Chris Matthews missed President’s Obama’s Tucson Memorial Speech. The speech in which the President called for civility and toning down of rhetoric. Either that, or Matthews prefers to ignore it!
On the eve of the SOTU, Chris Matthews was back on familiar ground: demeaning women in power. Matthew’s latest target: Congresswoman Michele Bachmann. In fact, Matthews got so wound up in his misogyny, that he lost his composure and control. He refers to Congresswoman Bachmann …

Michele Bachmann & The Slavery Imbroglio
We should defend every woman who is the victim of spittle-inflected invective of the sexist variety, whether we agree with her politics or not, and Michele Bachmann is no exception. The display of hatred toward her that marked Chris Matthew’s “journalism” on Tuesday night was unsettling for many of us. We’re used to it from Chris, but that doesn’t make it any more palatable to watch. It’s fair to note that Matthews did not start this latest round of invective directed at Bachmann, he was just worked up after a …
