Our rebuttal (see full article on story down) has been picked up overnight by The Guardian UK:

9.41am: There’s been an almighty backlash to a piece in the Huffington Post by the writer Naomi Wolf defending Julian Assange against the rape charges.

In a sarcastic open letter to Interpol, Wolf wrote:

As a feminist, I am also pleased that the alleged victims are using feminist-inspired rhetoric and law to assuage what appears to be personal injured feelings. That’s what our brave suffragette foremothers intended.

The piece provoked hundreds of hostile comments. Amy Siskind, president of the New Agenda, replied with a sarcastic open letter to Wolf.

It was so awesome that your piece made fun of Julian Assange’s [alleged] victims. What better way to discourage young women from reporting attempted or successful rapes.

Naomi Wolf has, once again…. completely lost her mind.

I wonder if she’s having “Christmas, Hannukah and New Years all rolled into one this time??

What hath Feminism wrought? That we have a generation of commentators as confused as Ms. Wolf??

Well that is what Corporate Media women do to be employed. Seriously does it make sense that an industry as profoundly sexist at every level as Corporate Media doesn’t have class action sexism lawsuits going on constantly? They should have been being sued by women writers, producers, actresses, directors, management, and neglected female audience for years, the fact that they aren’t being sued shows they screen the women they allow to have a voice very carefully. It has worked for Corporate Media up until now and as their bundling scam falls apart it leaves them with nothing to entice real women media consumers. Seriously are you going to pay for a humongous bundle of crap just to watch a woman like Naomi when you can pick and choose a couple of good shows for free?

Also why don’t we just let the women like Naomi have the title of “feminist” and call our selves pro-woman which is clearly something they could never claim and have no desire to be.

Bes, I think in retrospect it was in the cards for Wolf to freak out at the first sign of a crow’s foot. Of course, everything is obvious in hindsight, so there’s only so much hay I can make of this, but it does strike me as some sort of prophecy fulfillment that the woman who wrote a book screaming to the heavens about how aging is considered a treatable condition in women is now losing her shit in a very public way since hitting middle age and realizing that Cute Boys are going to be pushing past her to get to the women fifteen years younger.

Basically, she shouted from the rooftops about principles, and then when she was expected to live according to them herself, she gave up because it got hard. A lot of third-wave feminists have done that, and I hate saying it because it was a word I claimed for myself for a long, long time. I have seen a LOT of women go her route, where they pretended to be empowerfulated as long as it was cute and sassy, and now that the grey hair is showing up, they are shitting themselves and willingly turning in for Stepford conversion. I wouldn’t put it past Wolf to be at her core jealous that Assange chose some other chicks to have “hot sex” with instead of her.

Since Ms. Wolfe thinks that the pain and suffering of others is a laughing matter perhaps she could right a tongue in cheek column about murder, child molestation, elderly abuse, domestic violence, etc. Because we all know people are making this stuff up.
