The New Agenda is participating in Liz Claiborne Inc’s 7th annual It’s Time to Talk Day, a day dedicated to ensuring that Americans speak-up about a subject that most people simply prefer not to discuss — domestic violence. Tomorrow Amy Siskind will be on “Radio Row” talking about domestic violence at Liz Claiborne headquarters in New York City. For more information visit www.loveisnotabuse.com.
This year for It’s Time To Talk Day, we are utilizing social media to spread the word about what is happening on December 8th. On Twitter, we will be utilizing the #ITTTD hashtag to promote the conversation online. We encourage you to tweet and update your Facebook status throughout the day. Our Twitter handle is Love_IsNotAbuse, and the link to our Facebook page is: facebook.com/LoveIsNotAbuse.
Thank you for your support of this day, and all that you do to bring an end to violence!

So important and so complicated it’s hard to know where to begin with this subject. Simply blaming men is too simple as it is the culture we live in that creates the macho world of the dominent male with religion playing a major role. Statistically men who abuse their partners often grew up in households where domestic abuse also took place making such behaviour not just acceptable but the mascaline norm truely the ‘sins of the father’. Educating men is important but educating women is just as vital so that abuse is something to be opposed not hidden out of shame, and we need to recognise psychological abuse as well as physical.
