Women in the NFL Workplace
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Fining Brett Favre with a $50K fine for failure to cooperate in an investigation is all the NFL thinks is necessary. What about the sexual harassment? 5% of a single game pay is the lame, unacceptable fine. One word comes to mind in this case…PATHETIC!

Why CA-NOW is Right About Hooters
For years, I’ve watched the National Organization for Women (NOW) sit out some of the major fights around sexism (or worse, take the wrong side of the fight). But this time, they are spot-on gutsy.
A California chapter of the organization has filed a complaint against the Hooters restaurant chain for being an inappropriate dining establishment for children. The complaint argues that the restaurant violates the state’s sexual entertainment laws and, as such, should bar anyone under the age of 18 from entering. In short, NOW contends that Hooters is a …

55 Years Ago This Month Rosa Parks Refused to Give Up Her Seat
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Fifty-five years ago this month, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat. Historians call Dec. 1, 1955 the start of the Civil Rights Movement, when a 42-year-old seamstress in Montgomery, Alabama refused to cede her bus seat to a white passenger.
Parks was arrested for violating a city ordinance. But her decision to take a stand sparked a bus boycott that lasted 381 days. Martin Luther King, Jr. became the spokesperson for the boycott, …

UCONN Huskies v Ohio State Buckeyes: A Historic Game (UPDATED for the WIN!)
This article has been cross-posted from Peacocks and Lilies. See update below the fold.
At the end of the last college basketball season I wrote about the University of Connecticut women’s basketball team being within striking distance of beating the men’s record (UCLA) for longest winning streak. Since 1974, that record has stood at 88 straight wins. At the end of last season, UCONN needed eleven wins. The new season has started and so far they’re still winning.
Today #1 ranked UCONN plays game number 10 at Madison …
