Meg Whitman & the “Undocumented Worker” Charge
Nicky Diaz Santillan and Gloria Allred at their press conference Wednesday, September 29, 2010.
Oh, good grief, here we go. It’s Nannygate all over again. Meg Whitman, gubernatorial candidate for California, was hit with charges of employing an “undocumented worker,” her former housekeeper “Nicky” Diaz Santillan, from 2000 to 2009. The story, first reported on the entertainment website TMZ.com, has been picked up by the mainstream media, which is salivating already, its greasy chops fairly dripping with power verbs like “rocked” and with gratuitous adjectives like “explosive.” At this stage of …

Dem Women Revolt in Obama’s “Liberal Dude Nation”
The following article is cross-posted at the Huffington Post.
President Obama sure is angry. He scolded Democrats today, telling us that our apathy is “inexcusable” and “irresponsible”. Really? If you want inexcusable try this: turning the Democratic Party into “Liberal Dude Nation.” Converting 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue into a veritable frat house with few women leader and nary a focus on women’s issues. Allowing blatantly sexist remarks by the men of the Democratic Party without retribution – just another trip to the punch bowl of misogyny.
Democratic women have been …

Life Is No Nintendo Game
The following article is cross-posted from GayConservative with permission of the author. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
I have said before that lyrics are every bit as important as the tune of a song to me; I choose which music I listen to carefully. That said, I typically hate rap. The vast majority of it makes women into property, gang violence heroic, drug use and alcoholism chic, and prison time something to aspire to for “street cred”. I particularly …

Amy Siskind fires back at Rush Limbaugh: “Ignorant!”
Last week, The New Agenda spoke out in The Daily Caller demanding an apology from Sen Majority Leader Harry Reid for his reference to Senator Gillibrand as the “hottest” member in the senate.
Yesterday, Rush Limbaugh weighed in on his radio show:
Now, “Amy Siskind, president and co-founder of The New Agenda, told The Daily Caller that if Reid does not promptly voice regret, she and her group will be building a coalition against the senator and demanding a mea culpa.” How about working to get the pig unelected? If you …

First Graders Shake Their “Booties” for an Audience
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
A mother of a six-year-old girl, Jennifer Tesche, in Madison Heights, Michigan near Detroit was concerned about the cheers on her daughter’s cheerleading squad. She voiced her concern to the coach and to the local school officials. Instead, her daughter got kicked off the cheerleading team, and she is now publicly and socially ostracized.
The cheerleading she objects to?
“My back aches
My skirts are too tight
My booty shakes from left to right.”

Office Casual
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Last week I started a new job. It’s an office job, in a professional setting. The staff is almost entirely female (with a male boss). The field is mental health, where one has to be very careful about obeying laws, record-keeping, and of course, keeping appropriate boundaries with clients. As such, the environment has a lot of very specific rules, and a fairly specific dress code.
We have to be careful to wear plain shoes …

Take Action: DeMint and Coburn Block NWHM Bill!!!
The New Agenda is calling on our members to join our friends at the National Women’s History Museum to take action!
The bill for a National Women’s History Museum has already passed the House and has been awaiting passage in the Senate. This week, two senators, Jim DeMint of South Carolina and Tom Coburn of Oklahoma, have put holds on the bill.
You can read the full story in an article by Gail Collins, Unhold Us, Senators. Here’s an excerpt:
The legislation would simply allow a private group, conveniently named National Women’s …

Is 2010 the Year of the Safe Man?
Now the primaries are finished and the general is on! How will women fare in representation after this election? Early in the election season, some were calling 2010 “The Year of the Woman”, yet so many women lost their primaries. Below is a list of women general election candidates along with some polling information. When reading poll reports, you see words like “Solid Republican”, “Safe Democratic”, “Likely Democratic”, “Leans Republican”. I’ve translated these terms into what matters to readers of this blog: Show us the women!

It’s Not About “Identity Politics” or a “Gender Card”
Christine O'Donnell
The New Agenda was first of many to speak out against sexist media treatment of Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell. In the wake of that original article and the reaction by prominent Republicans after her subsequent primary win, some on the right began to see and speak out against sexism within their own ranks.
Now two articles, one by S.E. Cupp in The New York Daily News and one by Lori Ziganto at NewsRealBlog, seek to provide pushback against that emerging opinion among some conservatives. My article is cited in …
