The New Agenda’s Amy Siskind was interviewed by The Daily Caller for an article, The West’s over-sexualized culture is feminism’s byproduct. The article questioned Hugh Hefner’s quote in a recent New York Daily Newsarticle in which he declared, “women are sex objects.”

Ever heard of Joanna I. Queen of Naples. Jerusalem and Sicily?
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
I am giving the book “the Lady Queen” by Nancy Goldstone the forth time for a birthday gift. It occurred to me, that the reading on a real queen in the 14th century should paint a good contrast to recent press on the queen-like life of our first lady.
Here an excerpt from the book cover: “Amid intrigue, betrayal, and conspiracy, Joanna I of Sicily became the only female monarch of her day to rule …

10 Tips for Women Students
These pearls of wisdom where compiled by blogger Sara Seager, professor of planetary science and of physics at MIT. Although the tips are meant for young women entering the so-called “STEM” fields (science, technology, engineering, or math), we think the tips are helpful for all young women:
1. Join a support group of peers. It will be reassuring to have a specific group of peers to meet with. Such “women in physics” or “women in engineering” groups not only provide a group of people in a very similar …

A Resonance Moment Through Women in Physics
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Everyday I search on the internet for news in regard to women in physics. I love to hear what is going on in my field and what female physicist is being celebrated for either their contributions to research or for supporting other women coming up the academic/industrial ladder. When I receive my optics monthly publication from my professional society I specifically look through the table of contents to seek out female authors and catch …

Women Governors 2010 Update
For those who have been watching the women governors’ races, we lost two devastatingly close races Tuesday night. Republican Karen Handel of Georgia and Democrat Margaret Anderson Kelliher of Minnesota, both their party’s moderates and both with the best chance to win in the general election, lost their races by razor, razor thin margins. Handel’s loss was less than 4/10 of a percent, fewer than 2500 votes. Kelliher’s loss was less than 1500 votes. Both women conceded Wednesday at around noon. Now Georgia and Minnesota will have to wait at …

Violence, rape and little or no education is a fact of life for many women all over the globe. While the feminist movement took off in parts of the Western world, many women are still treated as second class citizens. Many endure violent daily events and manage to persevere and take care of their children in hopes of a better tomorrow.
Haiti. 75% of women …

New Milestone for Women at US Intelligence Agency
Yesterday marked a new point in US intelligence history. Letitia A. Long was promoted to director of the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA); the first woman to head any US intelligence agency.
At a ceremony at the agency’s new facility site at Fort Belvoir’s North Area in Springfield, Virginia, Long was quoted as saying,
I am excited by the opportunity to continue to serve our nation not only alongside NGA’s outstanding and dedicated professionals but also with our partners and colleagues that span the U.S. Intelligence Community, the international community, academia and industry.

The following article is cross-posted from Unwritten Rules with permission of the author. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
First published in The Glass Hammer July 7, 2010
One definition of insanity is to do the same thing again and again and expect a different result.
If we want more women in senior leadership positions we need to take a different approach. The current one isn’t working.
We’ve repeatedly called on Board Directors and C-suite executives to act on the strong business case …

Doctor Who: Amy Pond
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Doctor Who is the biggest British import in the United States. It is about a space- and time-traveling alien called The Doctor who adores Earth and often takes with him a human to be his companion on many adventures. These companions are often female but have been male. Recently, there has been some controversy over whether the treatment of Amy Pond in the series has been sexist. I refuse to …
