The Government of Switzerland has rejected a request by the U.S. to extradite Roman Polanski.

The New Agenda wrote extensively last October about Polanski’s rape of a 13 year-old girl. Hollywood showed up to defend their ‘above the law’ colleague – Whoopi even went so far as to declare “It wasn’t rape rape.”

Well the big money of Hollywood got their way.

The New York Times reports:

The Justice Ministry said Monday in a statement that national interests were taken into consideration in the decision, and that Polanski was now a free man.

Was justice served?

what can one expect from the Swiss. they took until 1974 or about that time to give the vote to women. I grew up with the joke “who cannot vote? the answer was, children, felons, demented people and Swiss women”.
this is not even a he said she said issue, where of course he said wins. we all know what he did, self admitted. it is not enough for the Swiss government to send him to a democratic country where crimes were committed and where he had stand before a judge.

I agree with Janis, since the law has been given adequate time to work this case and hasn’t then it is time for vigilante justice. Actually it has been vigilante justice time for many years in this case.

Just shows – if you’re a man with enough fame or money, you can do absolutely anything you want to any woman (or child) you want.

Hopefully he will stroke out from all the stress and just drop dead before he can get his greasy hands on another child. That would prove Karma once and for all.

This is very disappointing to hear. Time does not make a crime disappear! And I don’t even care if the victim doesn’t want him prosecuted now. It’s not about her, it’s about the sovereignty of our justice system; it is disgusting that a celebrity can get of the hook for a crime like this, no matter how long ago it occurred. Justice should know no time limits!

The only reason the victim didn’t want him prosecuted is because she knew he’d walk free and she’d be put through hell all over again for NOTHING. and yet we see fools defending her resigned giving-up of hope for any justice as some sort of empowerfulated autonomous decision on her part — “She’s like, so totally put it behind her, y’know! We must respect her agency!” As if the hopeless resignation of a drugged child-rape victim who knows she will never see justice in this life is something to celebrate.

I hope someone shoots him dead.

Switzerland now can add to her reputation, besides the honor of being the shelter of dirty money (you know, of nazis and dictators who pillage their courntries), that of shelter for child rapists.

“It’s not about her, it’s about the sovereignty of our justice system..”

I advocated for her wishes because I know there is no justice. Far too often all we ever do is drag the victim back through the muck, in a pointless exercise.

We should always be extremely careful about putting the sovereignty of our justice system above the victim’s wishes because this is exactly what often happens. We (meaning the media and the legal system) have simply continued to victimize this woman over and over again. At some point people should respect her sovereignty, her right to make decisions about her own case.

The only way to end his career is to make him a box office flop. Even if he has enough money to self-fund his movies, if all he makes are flops, other actors, director, etc. won’t want to.contribute to his films.
