Sharia Law hits New Jersey
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda. H/t to Marnie for bringing the story of a recent incident in New Jersey to our attention.
If Michelle Malkin a racist xenophobe, then I suppose I am as well. After all, Malkin has repeatedly condemned genital mutilation and the murder of Muslim women under “honor killings.” Guess what? I agree with her completely.
The majority of honor killings are committed by Muslims whose culture is deeply rooted in Sharia. …

Gender Stereotypes- Not Just A Woman’s Issue
The following article is cross-posted from Unwritten Rules with permission of the author. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Not enough women in senior leadership roles is often blamed on gender stereotyping.
Gender stereotypes are widely shared views on what is considered appropriate and effective behavior for men and women.
To “fit in” and be socially accepted, men are told explicitly and implicitly to be:
Primary breadwinners
Emotionally and physically tough
Competitive
Decisive
Assertive
Men know they need to avoid all things feminine or be labeled a …

Ad Featuring a Butchered Woman
Hat tip to our friends at Hardy Girl Healthy Women for sharing this disturbing ad for Beymen Blender, a pop-up store in Istanbul, Turkey.
The tag line with this disturbing photo reads: “The concept store with a butcher shop.”
Blogger Susannah Breslin at The Frisky writes:
…one could say it’s misogynist, offensive, or a series of other criticisms, yet what if you take it to the bottom line: Does seeing this chopped-up, butchered woman hanging from meat hooks make you want to go buy clothes? I can’t parse it if I try. She’s …

CEO Ellen Kullman Shoots the Lights Out!
Jim Cramer of CNBC calls her:
One of the best, but least-heralded CEOs in America.
That’s Ellen Kullman, CEO of Dupont — a woman leader to watch!
Despite the downbeat prospects for the housing market, Kullman’s company, DuPont, reported yesterday that quarterly profits tripled and the company had strong results in all segments across the globe.
Here’s Cramer on CNBC’s Stop Trading. You can hear at 0:56 where Cramer struggles with “this person” – “this CEO” – “not this woman”…and Erin Burnett chimes in: “that woman kind of makes you …

Renewing My “Go Girl” Mojo
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
There are some times in my life where my energy to work for parity has run dry. Maybe I’ve had the same argument with a male co-worker about why women make excellent CEO’s too many times and I need a re-charge. I need to refuel. Since I cannot go down to my local grocery store and buy a “Go Girl” energy bar I have to find some other avenue to regenerate. So I turn …

The Suspense of Helen MacInnes
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
A few years ago, I attempted to read novels dealing with suspense, politics, and other important contemporary matters. I assumed that because the authors were experts in a certain field, their fiction stories about that field must be awesome. Unfortunately, I discovered their characters and their style of writing to be flat, devoid of depth, and amateurish at best. They were experts in national security, but they knew nothing about a …

Fighting For Her Life
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
It’s no secret that violence against women is an international problem. When a woman in the United States is murdered, the most likely perpetrator is a husband or boyfriend. The case for women’s safety is bleaker in other countries like Guatemala, which has one of the highest homicide rates in the world. With a population of 13.5 million (slightly larger than the state of Illinois), Guatemala documented more than 3,800 cases of femicide—the murder …

Portrait Of A Child On Her Fifth Birthday
The following poem was written by Missy Egan Wey and is published in The Westchester Review, 2010: Volume 4)
Shafts of autumn sunlight
illuminate her face
matted on velvet,
in a frame brushed by gold.
Wheat-colored hair, drawn
smooth across her forehead,
encircles her ears,
brushes the nape of her slender neck.
Her gray eyes look away,
smudged sockets,
thumbprints of ash.
I remember the white smocked dress
blue stitching, drawn snug
across my chest, high collar
fastened by a pin made of pearls.
Starched puffed sleeves
hid my shoulders that day,
bruised by the boy next door;
the stench of sawdust on his hands.
Coils of insulation
muffle screams …

TNA Spoke Out: the Media’s Orchestrated Hit Job on Palin
Those of you following this blog are well aware of the sexism directed at Hillary Clinton during her presidential run. In case, you need a reminder, watch here.
The Daily Caller now reveals that there was an orchestrated attack on Sarah Palin when she was chosen as John McCain’s running mate. The attack includes many sexist elements such as:
Politico reporter Ben Adler, now an editor at Newsweek, replied, “but doesn’t leaving sad baby without its mother while she campaigns weaken that family values argument? Or will everyone be too …

What is Feminist Fiction?
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
What is feminist fiction? Feminist fiction is inherently pro-woman, but can fiction be woman-positive without necessarily being feminist?
Many years ago, The Closer premiered on TNT. Its title character is Brenda Leigh Johnson who uses her sharp wits to secure confessions, making trials unnecessary. I love so many things about the series. The show’s creator originally considered it to center around a man, but he made the character a woman to …
