On Tea, Sisterhood and Truth
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
In her recent article, Tea and Sisterhood, Judith Levine derided two brave and outspoken women: Palin, and The New Agenda’s President, Amy Siskind. Scattered among the spiteful ad hominem attacks, goofy fear-mongering, and glib assumptions, Levine makes several statements that show that her usual brilliant incisiveness fails utterly when it comes to “the new breed of women-identified women.” You know, the ones who are unwilling to unquestioningly genuflect to their Progressive betters.
Levine …

Nikki Haley: From Unknown to”Raghead” Whore in Less Than 2 Months
The following op-ed is cross-posted with permission of the author, Jenn Q. Public. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, not necessarily those of The New Agenda. The author wishes to disclose that she is a volunteer with Nikki Haley’s gubernatorial campaign. The SC gubernatorial primary will be held on Tuesday, June 8th.
A month ago, few people outside of South Carolina knew of State Rep. Nikki Haley. But that didn’t stop her opponents from wetting themselves when Haley picked up some impressive …

Meg Whitman and The Money Trap
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
As the California Republican primary race for governor draws to a close, much is being made of Meg Whitman’s largely self-financed campaign. Funny, I don’t recall such a fuss or such attention to detail when male candidates have done it. Remember Republicans Steve Forbes and Mitt Romney? What about Michael Bloomberg, mayor of New York City? Democrats may have made a little noise about their self-financing, but I don’t recall any articles written …

Why the ‘Pro-Women Movement Should and Will Replace Feminism
The following op-ed by The New Agenda’s Amy Siskind will be appearing on the front page of The Huffington Post here as of Sunday evening.
Ever since Sarah Palin gave a speech to pro-life organization Susan B. Anthony List, a firestorm has erupted over whether Susan B. Anthony was pro-choice or pro-life. What we do know is that Anthony and other women suffragists battled for decades to gain the right to vote. The fruit of their labor would be the Fifteenth Amendment, granting African …

Congressional Caucus for Womens Issues Interview with President of WPI
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Some important elements of participation in the political process include the associations the politicians and elected officials make in order to advance a particular constituency that has specific needs and represents in itself a political force (in terms of numbers as potential voters, and in terms of economic critical mass). These organizations build and coordinate efforts to pass legislation that address specific needs of these groups. Thus, …

Palin is Multi-Dimensional – Feminism Needs to be Too!
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Lately, there has been a lot of discussion about whether or not Sarah Palin has the right to call herself a feminist. There’s been a lot of discussion about whether she is pro-woman or anti-woman. I think this is a fundamentally unproductive conversation. Women as a group are heterogeneous. Our goals differ. Our living situations differ. Our families differ. Our ideas of what it means to be a woman …

Oil Spill Day 46: Where Are the Women in Green Technology?
The following article is cross-posted with permission of the author. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
As we go through the 43rd day of what will potentially go down as the worst environmental disaster in the history of the United States with no end in sight, and as sordid details of ignored warning signs and missed opportunities for corrective action emerge prompting a criminal inquiry, many are putting their hopes in renewed discussions about energy independence and the promise …

Why Talking Too Much About Kagan’s Sexuality Fuels Gender Policing
This piece is cross-posted with permission of Rachel Simmons’ blog (see bio below). The opinions expressed herein and those of Rachel Simmons, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Recently, Washington Post fashion reporter Robin Givhan chided Elena Kagan for sitting with her legs open, and Salon Broadsheet blogger Tracy Clark Flory responded with a blog accusing Givhan of subtle homophobia. “It feels like Kagan is, however indirectly, being indicted over her sexuality — once again,” Flory wrote. Taking issue with a photo caption in …

Diversity in NIH Director’s Pioneer Awards
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
On a semi-regular basis I like to do a news search on “women in science” just to see what comes up on the search engine radar. I stumbled across an article about the lack of gender diversity in prestigious scientific awards in Canada. The author of this Canadian article was trying to figure out why none of the recipients of these prestigious awards were women. She listed the search criteria of the nominating committees …

Glenn Beck – Stick to Politics – Not Breasts!
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
“Excuse the expression”? Sometimes, I wonder what the problem with Glenn Beck is. I think he knows his comments bother people, but he says “excuse the expression” to avoid an angry blacklash.
Why criticize Michelle Obama’s breasts at all? That comment is sexist.
The occasion for Beck’s comment was the state dinner in which Mexican President Filipe Calderon condemned the Arizona immigration bill. The Arizona immigration bill is a highly …
