We did it!!!
Our collective efforts worked! We emailed and called the AAP and our female leaders. And, yes, our voices were heard!
In a major reversal:
The policy statement ignited a storm of criticism from opponents of female genital cutting. Dr. Judith S. Palfrey, president of the academy, said: “We’re saying don’t do it. Do everything that you can to support that family in this tough time, but don’t be pulled into the procedure.”
Our national movement continues to grow and make a difference.

Great. A reversal in one month. Even though the American Academy of Pediatrics compared Type IV female as less intrusive as male circumcision, we must not forget our own USA style of female circumcision. A poignant story told by Patricia Robinett in her book “The Rape of Innocence”. Tells her own story when as a young girl, her mother had her circumcised. Patricia is white and lived in Kansas. This could have been paid for by Blue Cross which stopped paying for it in 1976.
