Lately, I have been trying to alternate short stories with my novel. I decided to take a look at Ralan, a website that houses a list of magazines for submissions. Guess what I found on his front page? A link to combat rape and help rape victims. The link says “Support rape crisis centers and enter to win an advance copy of Red Hood’s Revenge, by Jim C. Hines.”
Ralan’s website has been strictly for lists of magazines so that short story writers won’t have to search so long. This link is the first time I have seen him state his view on anything. I was quite happy to see such a woman-positive statement.
So, I then went into the professional market listings. The lists have been seriously diminished. High postage prices and the recession have quite possibly driven many magazines out of business. I was thrilled to see Realms of Fantasy still active. And I discovered for their August 2011 edition, they are having an issue dedicated entirely to women.
Fiction submissions for this issue are open to women only. Stories dealing with sexism, gender, and other areas important to feminist speculative literature are particularly welcome, but are not required. The stories themselves do not necessarily need to feature a female protagonist.
The same applies to artwork. If you wish to submit anything for this edition, please send it in before November 15! Read the special guidelines for more directions.

Wow! I want to read this issue. It is so clear that the Media Cartel have no idea how to communicate with female audiences of any age. That is because for so long “women’s content” has been whatever men say it is and there has been no requirement that women actually care to consume the media that is named for them. Now with the internet it is painfully clear that women don’t click on the paint by numbers crap that is aimed at them. I would like to read some stories about women overthrowing government, Corporate America and religions and taking them over.
