Women in Worship

Apr 30, 2010 | 10 Comments

The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
I have mentioned before in other blogs that I am a life-long Republican.  Something that I haven’t mentioned is that I am also a cradle Episcopalian.  My faith in God is an extremely important part of my life.  I have only belonged to two Churches my entire life, one in Massachusetts, and one here in western, NY.  The church where I grew up in Massachusetts was the only Episcopal church in the town …

Does Ohio reject women candidates? Brunner told “don’t drop out” by Republican woman

Apr 29, 2010 | 2 Comments

The following article, which was written by Lauren, is cross-posted with permission from Women’s Campaign Forum. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
It seems that the Ohio political establishment doesn’t want women in power. We’ve been talking about how Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner was told from the beginning not to run—to stay in her place and wait her turn. But she decided to run anyway—and was even further abandoned and sabotaged by Democratic party leaders.

Now we learn that …

Mean Girls and Trouble-Free Boys

Apr 28, 2010 | 20 Comments

The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
As the mother of a teenage girl, I’ve heard the casual critique more than once by otherwise well-meaning friends or colleagues. “Oh, you have a girl,” they reply when I mention the gender of my child. “Girls are so mean.” Women with only sons paint the accusation with a broad brush; those with daughters see their girls as victims. Mean girls, it seems, are everywhere – just check the news. They’re cyberbullying without mercy, publicly humiliating …

Adventurous Girls: Literature & Links for the Girls in Your Life

Apr 27, 2010 | One Comment

The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
I had initially planned to write a post about my favorite books growing up. I always loved a good plucky female protagonist off on an adventure or staying strong in the face of adversity or solving a mystery. Recently, I was able to listen in on a conversation between women who were discussing the lack of good adventurous heroines in girls books. I sat down and thought about my …

Reebok at it again with Sexist Commercial

Apr 26, 2010 | 7 Comments

The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda. H/T to Brooke.

A few days ago, TNA received an email informing us that the sexist Reebok ads are still appearing on television, particularly on Lifetime – that channel supposedly designed for women. I like my body regardless of what anyone else thinks. Isn’t your ability to like your body a basis behind sexual empowerment? However, these Reebok ads are not about convincing women to like their bodies. The …

Sheila to Larry King: Hang it Up Dud!

Apr 23, 2010 | 9 Comments

The opinions expressed herein are those of Shelia the Great, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Hello girlfriends, it’s me, Shelia the Great and NO, I did not make a typo in the title. Larry King is not a dude, but a dud and that dud needs to hang it up and retire.
This dud is a perv with a capital “P” and he’s got to go!
First off girlfriends, I need to correct something that I wrote in my piece here at TNA Monday – cuz Shelia the Great …

The Courage Express: Why Congress Needs Jennifer Brunner

Apr 22, 2010 | 5 Comments

The following article, which was written by Julie Daniels, is cross-posted with permission from Women’s Campaign Forum. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Ever since I met Secretary Jennifer Brunner, I’ve been a fervent supporter. She is warm and personable, yet strong and commanding. The more I learn about her, the more I believe in her run for U.S. Senate—especially since the Democratic party told her to be a good girl and stay in …

Attack on Laura Bush is Low Blow and Unwarranted!

Apr 21, 2010 | 5 Comments

The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
What could have prompted the virulent attack on the most popular US First Lady, with actually the highest approval ratings of any First Lady since this surveys have been recorded? Laura Bush is also considered a  moderate in her political views. She is a professional librarian, and has dedicated herself to Women empowerment and literacy. Why on earth would the HP publish this?
Laura Bush’s memoir comes out May 4th. …

Questions for Anne Kornblut on her new book?

Apr 20, 2010 | One Comment

Anne Kornblut, author of Notes from the Cracked Ceiling will be featured at The New Agenda’s evening event on May 6th.
Since we are a national organization, and realize that most of our members cannot make it to New York for the event, we wanted to give you a chance to participate.
Do you have a question or comment that you would like us to share with Anne at the event? Was there an issue in the book that left you wondering? If you were having coffee with Anne, what …
