Ealier this week, Amy Siskind and Marcia Pappas, President of NOW-NYS wrote an op-ed at The Huffington Post, Harold Ford: Get Your Sexism Out of NY.  In the op-ed, Siskind and Pappas discuss their earlier experience with David Goldin, current spokesperson for Harold Ford – former public relations person for Sen Hiram Monserrate.

Texans Don’t Have a Woman Problem

Feb 5, 2010 | 29 Comments

A pro-Perry blogger read my Kay Bailey Hutchison piece and is under the impression that acknowledging Kay’s pro-woman record will actually hurt her chances of winning. To use his words, my post:
…reads like an attack hit sheet put out by Rick’s peeps.
He then excerpts my piece including all of Kay’s pro-woman accomplishments. If you believe the blogger, you would assume Rick Perry is pro-rape, thinks women should get paid less than men, has an inferiority complex when it comes to women trailblazers and has some kind of issue with Ladies …

Fat Lady Singing for Olbermann

Feb 4, 2010 | 3 Comments

In 2008, many in the country viewed Chris Matthews and Keith Olbermann as the “boys of sexism” over at MSNBC. They relentlessly attacked the two female candidates that year.
What goes around comes around. MSNBC has seen their ratings fall off a cliff. Turns out the country isn’t so eager to embrace misogynistic rantings.
H/T to Nancy for sharing this ever so priceless piece posted over at American Thinker, The Fat Lady Sings for Keith Olbermann.  We thought you might like to start your morning off with a laugh.  …

Women Composers: Silenced Through the Centuries

Feb 3, 2010 | 6 Comments

The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
“I want to show the world as much as I can in this profession of music, the vein error of men, that they alone possess the gifts of intellect and artistry, and that such gifts are never given to women.”
Maddalena Casulana (1544-1590)
“Clara has composed a series of small pieces, which show a musical and tender ingenuity such as she has never attained before. But to have children, and a husband who is always living …

Feb 2, 2010 | 30 Comments

If you are like me, you may be still feeling frustrated with the Coakley non-election and wondering why voters seem to have a problem electing totally qualified women. You may even feel that itch to do something about it, take some ACTION! For those that share that feeling, there is something you can do right now and, in fact, time is of the essence.
Kay Bailey Hutchison, the most senior female Republican senator, is running for governor of Texas. The Republican primary is March 2nd. That is just a month away! …

TNA and NOW-NYS say “Harold Ford: Get Your Sexism Out of NY!”

Feb 2, 2010 | 2 Comments

The following op-ed written by Amy Siskind, President of The New Agenda, and Marcia Pappas, President of NOW-NYS, is featured at The Huffington Post.
Last month, Harold Ford Jr. parachuted into New York State’s political scene as a possible senatorial candidate.  His initial descent has been plagued by a series of missteps. First, Mr. Ford flip-flopped on gay rights and choice.  Then, Mr. Ford admitted to holding a Tennessee drivers license and stated that he had only landed on Staten Island in a helicopter.  Next, Mr. Ford’s misstated the timing of …

The following op-ed by The New Agenda’s Amy Siskind is posted at MORE. You can find the full article here.
A pro-life Superbowl ad is causing controversy—and giving women a touchdown opportunity.
Sunday’s Super Bowl matchup between the Saints and the Colts is nothing compared to the war of words now unfolding between Sarah Palin and NOW. The back story: For Game Day on CBS, Focus on the Family is sponsoring a controversial commercial in which Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow conveys a distinctly pro-life message. NOW and several other pro-choice …
