BACKGROUND: M. Patricia Smith, New York Commissioner of Labor, is experienced and tough minded with an outstanding track record on safeguarding working women’s rights. She has cracked down on violations of fair labor standards and has helped millions of workers and their families attain a decent quality of life. Here’s her bio.
President Obama nominated M. Patricia Smith on March 9, 2009 to be Solicitor of Labor based on her impressive thirty year record of public service and labor law enforcement. The Senate HELP Committee approved her nomination on October 7, 2009 and sent it to the full Senate for consideration.
Senator Enzi did not attend Patricia’s committee’s confirmation hearing nor did he even meet with her. Nonetheless, Senator Enzi placed a hold on her nomination and raised unfounded and unsubstantiated allegations about her integrity and qualifications. He will try to block this excellent nominee on Monday.
It’s time to send the message: All Americans need a strong, fair-minded Solicitor of Labor.
We need Patricia Smith confirmed now! PLEASE TAKE ACTION !
