Lilly LedbetterHappy Lilly Ledbetter Day! That’s right. One year ago today, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act was signed into law. Brava!

Lilly Ledbetter herself chose to celebrate the momentous day for women by endorsing Cheryle Jackson for U.S. Senate, whose primary is Tuesday.

“ I can think of no better way to celebrate this important milestone of the Lilly Ledbetter Act’s enactment into law than electing the first woman President and CEO of the Chicago Urban League and a true champion of economic empowerment, Cheryle Jackson, to the U.S. Senate,” said Ledbetter.

Jackson has been a consistent and powerful voice for women on issues of reproductive choice, economic empowerment, equal pay and education.

“I am honored to receive this endorsement, which sends a powerful message that I am the only candidate for the U.S. Senate that can be not just a vote, but a strong voice for women. Mark Kirk voted against this historic law – and against women – and as the Democratic nominee I will hold him accountable for his record against women’s interests,” said Jackson.

Women need a powerful voice in the US Senate. For those who agree, get your friends from Illinois out voting on Tuesday!

Thank you Lilly!

Thank God an African American woman running for the Democratic Primary in IL.IL has a history of electing African Americans to the Senate they also elected an African American female before.
As an African American I have two ceilings to break and I would also like to see more African American females in all forms of Government.
This is very good news indeed.

    Hillarysmygirl16,

I feel you and I hope she wins! Its well past due that we get more women into government positions, but we equally need more women of color in high positions. I don’t know much about Ms. Jackson, but from what I’ve read on Emily’s List she sounds like an excellent candidate.

Also, I appreciate your blog name, but don’t think Hillary will be able mount a challenge in 2016. She’ll be about 70 years old, and between sexism and the additional ageism attributed to women, I doubt she’ll be able to do it.

I love Hillary! She has been a fighter for women of races and social backgrounds all around the world, while so many male chauvinist civil right activists like Al Sharpton, are tunnel vision and can only see their own plight.

That’s what was so offensive about Reverend Wright. For me it was never about “the chickens coming home to roost”. He was clearly tone deaf to the struggles and oppression of women. “Hillary ain’t never been called…….” Well, Barack ain’t never been called a bitch, whore, cunt, etc….” The hypocrisy was astounding!!!
