I’ve heard it again. “A woman can’t be elected governor of South Carolina.”

I wrote about this stupid notion last year.  It’s astounding (1) that people believe this and (2) they think there is reason to believe it.

The reason why people believe a woman can’t win the Palmetto Governor’s Office is because a few backward thinking, 18th century neanderthals don’t want no woman tellin’ them what to do.  Womens ain’t s’pose ta be da boss over mens.

Too late.  When HAVEN’T they been da boss over mens?

If a woman has to choose between catching a fly ball and saving an infant’s life, she will choose to save the infant’s life without even considering if there are men on base.  ~Dave Barry

Look – we have women in whom we trust and in whose talents we have great confidence:

  • baby sit (or run child care for) our children
  • teach our children – in public AND Sunday schools
  • preach in our pulpits
  • be our doctors and nurses
  • bank our money
  • police our streets and neighborhoods
  • wear the uniforms of our military
  • protect our homes and businesses against fires
  • fly into outer space
  • grow, pack and cook our food – at home and restaurants
  • ship thousands of other items we need for daily use
  • manufacture many more thousands
  • research and create vaccines and medicines
  • dispense medicines as pharmacists
  • report our news
  • and much more

And all that is after they are our mothers, wives, daughters, sisters, nieces, aunts, cousins and friends.

Look at the most prominent women in American politics. Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Janet Napolitano, Olympia Snowe, Mary Landrieu, Barbara Boxer, Maxine Waters, Diane Feinstein and, yes, Sarah Palin. Good Grief! South Carolina can do better than THAT!

I have an idea that the phrase “weaker sex” was coined by some woman to disarm some man she was preparing to overwhelm.  ~Ogden Nash

Nikki Haley is running for governor of South Carolina. She’s a far better politician, leader and person than the above-mentioned and a damned sight better than those men against whom she is running.

And not only can she DO the job, she can GET it.  She CAN be elected.

Women around the state will see to it.  Women’s groups around the state have heard Nikki and listened.  They like her and not BECAUSE she is a woman, but rather because she is THE woman.

THE woman who is THE conservatively principled candidate in the race.
THE woman that believes in the wisdom of the constitution.
THE woman that understands the necessity of fiscal management and responsibility.
THE woman who insists on government accountability.
THE woman who recognizes the need to nurture small businesses and promote programs and policies that make them successful.
THE woman who will not put up with the malfeasance that have damaged our schools and threatened our childrens’ education.
THE woman who realizes the damage caused by high and unnecessary taxes.

    Thank you Garnet.

We’re really excited about Haley. Please let TNA know if you see any sexism directed at this candidate and we can help!

I know I have said this before and I say it to offer you all hope even though it seems to offer only aggravation since you all don’t want to think of the east coast as being sexually backward… I live in Washington (the state) and we have two female senators (not legacies) to the fed government, our governor is female and she is not the first woman to hold the position or a legacy and we just had a female justice sworn in as the chief justice of our state supreme court which is half female.
