Happy New Year!
Your organization marked major milestones in 2009:
- Protecting Our Daughters - we became a national partner of MADE (Moms and Dads for Education to Stop Teen Dating Violence), along with Liz Claiborne, REDBOOK and Seventeen Magazines, SafeHorizon and DayOne.
- “Senator Slasher” – we formed a coalition with NOW-NYS and ERLC to speak out against NYS Senator Monserrate, who slashed his girlfriend’s face. This week, a NYS Senate committee recommended “stiff” sanctions, including possible expulsion.
- Eradicating Sexism – we defended women of BOTH parties. Read our Daily Beast piece The Year in Sexism.
- Media - we blanketed the media, speaking out on television, radio, in print, and on the Internet on issues impacting women and girls.
- A Voice For All Women – we added women of different races, socio-economic backgrounds and several Republicans women to our day-to-day operations.
As we enter 2010, women stand at a crossroads of possibility. We are making progress, yet as 2009 ends, we see that women’s health is under assault. More than ever, women need a strong advocate to fight for them.
The New Agenda will be that voice. We will continue to speak out for and protect women and girls.
