This Week: Obama (and Staff) Treatment of Women

Dec 6, 2009 | 16 Comments

The fraternity at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue continues.
Here’s Robert Gibbs comparing reporter April Ryan to a child:

Meanwhile, President Obama fails to mention the women and children of Afghanistan is his speech Tuesday at West Point. Jake Tapper of ABC News took the administration to task:
TAPPER: And if I may, just one more. In his March — in his March speech President Obama mentioned that if the Taliban returns to controlling Afghanistan it would be bad for human rights. And he specifically singled out women and girls. He did …

Booby/Booty Business Plans

Dec 6, 2009 | 4 Comments

Just the other day a journalist from outside the D.C. area asked us at TNA for our opinions on a new coffee house where the theme of the store was get a hot cup of coffee served by a HOT babe.  The promo on their website featured a teen-aged female who was wearing a mini-mini-skirt and had breasts bursting out of her low cut top.  I won’t get into the names that they use to describe different cup sizes of coffee.  You also will not find a link to this …

Feminist books for five-year-olds

Dec 5, 2009 | 3 Comments

Found a great article in The Guardian today. That’s right. “Feminist books for five-year-olds“. Hah! Has there even been an article more up my alley? I would have thought the title was directed right to me. It is nice to know I’m not the only one out there trying to battle the onslaught of Barbies and princesses.
The author is a mother of a 6 year old boy and a 3 year old girl. Through entertaining prose, she takes you on her journey of discovering the need for a “gender stereotyping …

Women Senators Sponsor Mammogram Coverage Amendment

Dec 4, 2009 | 10 Comments

Today the Senate voted on an amendment that would allow the Health and Human Services secretary to require insurers to cover preventive health screenings free of charge. This protective step for women came as a result of a push by women politicians – of both parties.
Sen. Barbara Mikulski, D-Md., and Sen. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine co-sponsored an amendment to the healthcare bill – that amendment passed yesterday by a vote of 61-39.

France May Force Gender Equality on Boards

Dec 3, 2009 | 9 Comments

The Guardian reporting:
Nicolas Sarkozy’s centre-right party has put forward legislation that would see women make up half the figures in France’s leading boardrooms by 2015, under a bold plan to impose gender equality on the male-dominated business world.
In a bill submitted to the French parliament this week, all companies listed on the Paris stock exchange would have to ensure female employees made up 50% of their board members by 2015. If passed, a gradual implementation of the law would see businesses obliged to have women in 20% of board seats …

Obama’s Misogynistic Associations Come Back to Bite Him

Dec 1, 2009 | 25 Comments

It’s not been a particularly good week for two well known misogynists:  Rick Warren and Larry Summers.  Nor has it been a particularly good few months for President Obama.
Obama had little concern for poking women in the eye with his early associations as he became president.  I suppose he figured that 56% of women voted for him in 2008 and he could take their vote for granted going forward.  WRONG!
President Obama’s Inauguration was presided over by Rick Warren, well known for his belief that women are second class citizens put …
