HUFFPO: Why the Palin “Hate Affair” Will Backfire
The following op-ed written by The New Agenda’s Amy Siskind is now featured on the home page at The Huffington Post. The piece among the most commented on HuffPo: feel free to leave a comment there. This piece is bumped up from earlier posting.
I’ve been watching with great interest as of late the amount of hate stories written about Governor Palin. Oh yes, we are a country that loves our drama. And we are certainly a country that can, at times, be accused of going to extremes. But one thing …

Sexism Stoplight: Secretary Syndrome
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Dear TNA,
I am now a Principal Engineer at a prestigious government laboratory. When I first started as a Sr. level engineer it took some time before the upper levels of administration even noticed that I existed [as an engineer]. I had one interaction with the Assistant Director of the laboratory that I will never forget. We had a safety inspection in my individual laboratory and in attendance was the Assistant Director, Stan; an engineer …

DAILY BEAST: Nancy Pelosi, Feminist Nightmare
The following is op-ed by The New Agenda’s Amy Siskind is published at The Daily Beast.
Is there an extra seat on Air Force One? Given women’s fury last week over the Stupak amendment, Speaker Nancy Pelosi should have hitched a ride with Obama out of town.
But she did not. Speaker Pelosi continued along unfazed. After taking away insurance funding for reproductive rights, she went off to Massachusetts. There, Pelosi stopped by to endorse a man running against state Attorney General Martha Coakley, an immensely qualified Democratic candidate vying to become …

Giuliani is in, not in, in, not in NY Senate Race 2010
Rudy Giuliani may be running against Senator Kirsten Gillibrand in 2010.
Our viewers will recall that Senator Gillibrand was appointed by Governor Paterson to take the seat vacated by Hillary Clinton when she was appointed by President Obama as his Secretary of State.
Prior to becoming Senator, Gillibrand was a member of Congress. She is a Democrat, but represented a congressional district that was predominantly Republican – reflecting Gillibrand bi-partisan appeal.
In her short time as NY Senator, Gillibrand has already done so much for women and women’s issues.
It is important that we …

Sexist Newsweek Cover Inspires Frum’s New Scholarship: “She Asked for It!” *Updated
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
And now, an entirely new argument for sexism: She asked for it! Stop me if you’ve heard this one before.
Sarah Palin complains that her Newsweek cover is sexist. The magazine borrowed a photo from Palin’s Runner’s World interview last year, showing the fit governor in running shorts next to the question: How do you solve a problem like Sarah? ***Journalist David Frum scorns Palin’s complaints, and did not correct Judy Woodruff’s summary of his …

Where is the Outrage on Palin Hate?
Well Sarah Palin is back in public life and the hate affair continues. In fact, it might even be gathering steam.
As an avid Hillary Clinton supporter, I thought that I had seen it all in 2008. I was asked after Hillary stepped out of the race what it felt like to watch the sexism directed at this woman. My answer: “it was like watching a slow motion train wreck and being unable to speak.”
The ongoing debate over the Newsweek cover, reminds me of the time that Hillary was accused …

Breasts: Victims of Sexist Policy, or Beneficiaries of New Research?
The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
For decades doctors have urged women to get frequent mammograms starting in their forties. When it comes to breast cancer—the second deadliest cancer for women—doctors have always advised women that early detection saves.
Today the U.S Preventive Services Task Force, a panel within the Department of Health and Human Services, marked a sharp withdrawal in policy promoting breast cancer awareness. According to new Task Force recommendations, women don’t need mammograms until they’re into their fifties. Women …

Mammography in the News
The new mammogram guidelines set forth by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force this week that say women don’t need regular mammograms until they are in their 50′s rather than 40’s, and even then not as often. This offers critics of the current healthcare legislation proposals a real opportunity. In fact, Sarah Palin could reasonably claim that they confirm her suspicions of government “death panels” making healthcare decisions. This is not the first time these changes have been proposed. At a time when concerns that the currently debated health care …

More Palin “Hate Affair” Hysteria
The Hate Affair continues. One of the most recent and most disgusting shots fired at Sarah Palin, in what appears to have escalated to an all out war, is this picture from “comedian” Lee Camp found at the Huffington Post.
In the wake of the release of her new book Going Rogue: An American Life, new attempts to degrade and humiliate Sarah Palin abound. I think I have a grand sense of humor, but I don’t find this even remotely funny. These attempts to sexualize Palin are a blatant ploy to have …

Pelosi explains why she threw women under the bus…
Politico reports that Speaker Pelosi saying that the Stupak Amendment is being used to scuttle the healthcare bill.
Well, hello….
Wasn’t Pelosi the one who met with the Catholic Bishops and who allowed this atrocity to women to be part of the healthcare bill? I mean c’mon – this one amendment has galvanized two very unlikely bedfellows — the anti-choicers and the pro-choicers — both now heading to the Senate to derail what left Pelosi’s House.
Here Pelosi explains her view on what went down. You’ll get extra credit points if you can …
