While Patty Fisher of the San Jose Mercury News wrote a thoughtful piece about the treatment of girls in this society, the SF Chronicle seemed to be laying the ground work for the "she asked for it defense." The Chronicle focused on drinking (according to witnesses) and the fact the young woman seemed to eager to please the "bad boys" (according to an unnamed counselor). I trust that not only this situation will be addressed but the fact that women are routinely abused in this country, and tolerance for this sad fact is a disease. I love it when you complain about how women get the short end of the stick in this country, someone, ususally male, will say "Well, how would you like to be a woman in Saudia Arabia?" Like the US is female nirvana because only 25% women are sexually assaulted, and not all women are beaten, and we get 81% of what men with comparable educations and positions get.
