Sarah Palin to Appear on Oprah

Oct 21, 2009 | 7 Comments

Sarah Palin will give her first major interview since stepping down as governor of Alaska to Oprah on November 16th.
Oprah’s production company said in a written statement:
[F]ollowing her decision to step down as governor of her home state of Alaska, and on the eve of the release of her first book, Palin will speak first to Oprah in a world exclusive interview…
We at The New Agenda note the following:  since our piece in The Daily Beast, Should Women Back Palin in 2012?, there’s been a fair amount of  “commotion” on …

Women and Healthcare: Is this a ploy?

Oct 20, 2009 | 4 Comments

Strange article yesterday in Politico titled Analysts to Democrats: Aim pitch at women.
Get ready ladies – here it comes. Back to “ole faithful” – the woman voters.
Here’s the premise of the Politico article:
With health reform still struggling among voters, analysts say Democrats are missing the chance to win over one key group — women — despite dramatic proposals to transform the way insurers treat them.
According to Politico, here’s what women get:
Maternity care would be guaranteed. Insurance companies could no longer charge higher premiums for women than men.
And insurers now …

Senator Gillibrand, ERLC Join in Saying Monserrate Should Resign

Oct 19, 2009 | 3 Comments

Another women in government and another women’s organization joined the chorus demanding that Monserrate resign.
Thus far, State Senator Liz Krueger was the first Democratic state senator to speak out.  Followed by State Senator Betty Little, the first Republican state senator to call for his resignation.  And now, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand issues a release which says:
Domestic violence has no place in our society, and certainly has no place in the State Legislature. A court of law has found Sen. Monserrate guilty of domestic violence, and I believe he should resign …

Update on Monserrate…How You Can Help….

Oct 19, 2009 | 2 Comments

The Democrat state senators met and Sen John Sampson, the Democrat’s Conference Leader, has decided to assemble a committee to investigate and recommend sanctions/removal of Hiram Monserrate.
The members of the committee will consist of those who have not yet come out publicly one way or another about the matter—that means that Sen Kruger (leading the charge to remove Monserrate) and Sen Diaz (who supports Monerrate) will not be on the committee—but it means that other state senators who have yet taken a public position could be.
Sen …

The Shriver Report rolls out..

Oct 19, 2009 | 11 Comments

Maria Shriver and NBC kicked off their weekly broadcast around The Shriver Report: A Woman’s Nation Changes Everything.
Here’s a clip from yesterday’s opening salvo on NBC’s Meet the Press:

First off, Podesto is factually incorrect – politics are not a lagging indicator. Women in politics make up 17% of our senate and congress. Women in corporate America, as measured by the percentage in Fortune 500 management positions, is actually less than 17%. Women make up just 13 of the Fortune 500 CEOs (2.6%), and roughly 15% of Fortune …

The Perception of Asking for Help

Oct 18, 2009 | One Comment

The past few months has been a whirlwind for me as I am preparing for a new chapter in my adult life; going back to school for my PhD.  The preparation has entailed studying for the general Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) at every free moment in between taking a mathematical methods for physicists class, keeping up with my consulting responsibilities, supporting my colleagues here at TNA, and remaining functional as a mother and a wife.
Before I started working toward this new endeavor I put together a support structure of friends, …

Feeding Athena to the Wolves- the Rape of our Warriors

Oct 17, 2009 | 2 Comments

The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
Military rape awareness week went by with little fan fare or media coverage.  The nonprofit group, Veterans for Peace staged a protest at the army recruiting center on Times Square – nothing much was said about it.  The same week, we discussed plans to ship 60,000 soldiers to Afghanistan.  More troop deployments from a military that relies on volunteers.  Volunteers who may not know that a recent survey of veterans seeking medical care from …

Hindsight is 20/20…it’s nicer than saying, “I told you so.”

Oct 17, 2009 | 18 Comments

The opinions expressed herein are those of the author, and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
An article by Chris Stirewalt regarding Secretary of State Hillary Clinton appeared in the conservative Washington Examiner. The title of the article is Disillusioned liberals yearn for Hillary Clinton. Stirewalt writes of how he realized just recently that statements Secretary Clinton made during her primary run for President of the United States were accurate and now they were coming back to haunt him. He admits that Secretary Clinton told …
