Sarah Palin to Appear on Oprah

Sarah Palin will give her first major interview since stepping down as governor of Alaska to Oprah on November 16th.
Oprah’s production company said in a written statement:
[F]ollowing her decision to step down as governor of her home state of Alaska, and on the eve of the release of her first book, Palin will speak first to Oprah in a world exclusive interview…
We at The New Agenda note the following: since our piece in The Daily Beast, Should Women Back Palin in 2012?, there’s been a fair amount of “commotion” on the blogosphere about this subject.
Several pro-Palin blogs have been exploring this notion – the importance of Sarah Palin reaching out to get women’s votes.
Well, seems Sarah Palin agrees!
(Wrong story line Ben Smith.)

I hope this goes well for Sarah. I hope that Oprah minds her manners, and does not approach the interview in a “gotcha” way.
Will wait to see how that turns out… before I decide if I’ll ever support Oprah again.

The usual snark from Ben Smith in regard to Palin. I love how he paints her as some sort of calculating person for wanting to sell books! I like Sarah – she is not my ideal political candidate because of some policy issues but I find her to be an impressive person and a savvy politician who has been unfairly represented by the media.
I hope the interview is a fair one and that the country gets to know Sarah better.
I begrudgingly voted for Sarah in 2008 – I have my issues with her but I did not find the Manchurian candidate other option to be an appropriate one. But I probably would have stayed home if she were not on the ticket. She is more to the right than I am (I consider myself to be a slightly left of center) but I did find her political rise in Alaska very impressive. She is truly a self-made woman.
Nothing could ever get me to watch the oprah show again.
There are consequences to back-stabbing your gender – and Oprah’s falling ratings are an indication of that. I’ll just have to settle for that until oprah finds that “special place in Hell” that Albright spoke of.
I view this as Sarah being “smart like a fox”. Much like Hillary, she embraces those who were viewed as her “enemies” and neutralizes them and raises her own stature in the process.
I agree Oprah was wrong in how she handled her obvious blind devotion to obama by refusing to interview Sarah during the general election, but I view Sarah’s agreeing to be on her show indicative of her character and her willingness to reach out to those who oppose her in finding common ground.
That’s what everyone said obama was all about. Sarah is going to show the public that it is really she who is willing to “reach across the aisle”, not obama. She will be a nice contrast from THE ONE. If Oprah uses this interview to try to hurt Sarah, it will certainly backfire.
Either way, Sarah wins! Good for her.
Oprah can bite me. Every one of those billion dollar bills in her coffers came from the wallet of a working-class woman, and she abandoned them the second she could. She can kiss my blue-collar backside.
I hope Sarah Palin comes out of this well. I can’t see Winfrey being even vaguely fair or even civilized to her. Or whatever passes for her audience, to be honest.
How does everyone here feel about today’s announcement that Sarah Palin is endorsing a MALE third-party candidate over the Republican WOMAN running for the NY 23 Congressional seat? I’ve often said that Palin is no friend of women either from a policy or support standpoint. Those who have drunk the Palin Kool-Aid must have a pretty bitter taste in their mouths right now. Apparently Diedre Scozzafava has views on women’s issues like abortion that don’t gibe with Palin’s, so she’d rather support a man.
NBS,
I think you are over-reacting. No, Sarah Palin is not the type of politician to endorse a woman because they are a woman. The female Republican candidate in question is very moderate and is supported by ACORN. Palin went with the Independent candidate who is more traditionally conservative-minded. Newt Gingrich, on the other hand, supports the Republican candidate – because she is a Republican. Interesting to have ACORN and Newt supporting the same candidate.
I personally do not vote ONLY in regard to gender although it is an important factor. If I feel the female candidate will be competent I will vote for the woman. If I feel that the female candidate could be dangerously regressive, I will not vote for her. If I feel that there are two terrible choices, one male and one female, I will vote for the woman.
In the 2008 election I voted for Palin because she is a woman but also because the other option seemed like a phony one to me, as I likened Obama to a completely unqualified Manchurian candidate. I personally respect Palin as a woman and politician immensely but I would prefer a female candidate (and even a male candidate if they are qualified) who represents my values better.
