UPDATED: Sen Leahy interrupts Sen Gillibrand – she is a woman after all…

Jul 14, 2009 | 30 Comments

Apparently Senator Leahy didn’t take his anti-grumpy meds yesterday morning.
As Senator Kirsten Gillibrand was speaking in support of Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination, he chose to cut her off:

Politico reports:
It was a striking moment in the clubby Senate, where members typically show enormous deference to each other — particularly to senators of the same party, and even more so when on live national television.
Striking indeed. Yes, Sen Leahy and Sen Gillibrand are members of the same political party!

Obama Nominates Regina Benjamin for Surgeon General

Jul 13, 2009 | 4 Comments

The New Agenda applauds President Obama’s nomination of the country’s second female Surgeon General.  Dr. Regina Benjamin is a rural Alabama family physician who made headlines with fierce determination to rebuild her nonprofit medical clinic in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
President Obama said of Dr. Benjamin:
When people couldn’t pay, she didn’t charge them. When the clinic wasn’t making money, she didn’t take a salary for herself.
Here’s the acceptance speech given by Dr. Benjamin earlier today:

Thoughts on “Thoughtful” Analysis of Sarah Palin

Jul 13, 2009 | 25 Comments

Whenever I try to discuss our society’s sexist response to Palin, all I get are a bunch of excuses:  The attacks aren’t sexist, that’s just politics, she shouldn’t have done this, she shouldn’t have done that, I don’t feel sorry for her.
The responses are largely the same, sometimes very close to verbatim. Could their opinions possibly be influenced by the media? No. It is surely just a consistent coincidence. Of course, there are SOME attacks, including sexist ones, but most of what you read out there is very “thoughtful” and …

Palin: The Bad Mother

Jul 12, 2009 | 25 Comments

The opinions expressed herein are those of the author and not necessarily The New Agenda.
Many of us are still unclear as to why Sarah Palin resigned as governor of Alaska.  I know that I am.  One thing that seems apparent to me is that Gov. Palin has not actively sought the spotlight since her resignation; if anything the media has sought her out, wanting answers to questions that many of us have.
Whether Gov. Palin resigned for personal family reasons, a desire to make sure her state had the best representative …

Lynne Williams: Maine’s Candidate

Jul 11, 2009 | 4 Comments

The opinions expressed herein are those of the author and not necessarily The New Agenda.
Lynne Williams is the only woman from a third party running on a gubernatorial ticket. As the Green party’s candidate, her main platform is ecological friendliness and safety. She is currently the Green Party chairwoman.
Lynne Williams was born in Brooklyn, NY; her father was a businessman, and her mother was a homemaker. She received a B.A in psychology from Merrimack College, and a M.A in experimental psychology from Brooklyn College. However, …

A Male Feminist’s Treatise on Sexism

Jul 11, 2009 | 22 Comments

Opinions expressed herein are those of the author and not necessary The New Agenda.
It’s time for my treatise on Sarah Palin.
It’s been in the pipes for a while. I’ve said what I’ve can. But too often, and too long, I’ve basically been laughed out. Like Palin herself, I can take the heat; what I couldn’t — and can’t — take is the energy and time to fight those so-called feminists that have their preconceived and bogus notions about Sarah. So this is my lashing out to attack those that I …

You Decide – Is This What a Feminist Looks Like?

Jul 10, 2009 | 19 Comments

Hat tip to JP for sharing this photo which was the most emailed photo on Yahoo yesterday:

So guilty or not guilty?
Hat tip to Bella Donna for this video clip by ABC that seems to clear Obama:

You decide.

Hillary Rescues Honduras

Jul 10, 2009 | 3 Comments

This piece is cross-posted from No Quarter with the permission of the author. The New Agenda thanks Larry Johnson for his astute analysis of the work of SOS Hillary Clinton when so few in the media seem interested in covering this story. Opinions expressed herein as those of the Larry Johnson and not necessarily those of The New Agenda.
After Barack Obama’s team of White House amateurs overreacted to the expulsion of Honduran President Zelaya two weeks ago by lining up with Fidel Castro and Venezuela’s Hugo Chavez, Hillary …
