From the narrative at the beginning of the tape - 'My lawyers have told me not to make any statements; I want to say...' - I inferred, sales of his records are tanking in light of the cancelled personal appearances, and his lawyers and accountants pointed out to Mr. Brown that, he has to say something to stem the economic flood. But first, he had to come up with an excuse for not having 'gone public' sooner. After all, the "incident" occurred 5 (five) months ago. Otherwise, his 'apology tour' might appear commercially contrived. So, he blamed his lawyer. Still, I listened to the whole tape.

I almost could not get past this sentence. "I have told Rihanna countless times (and I'm telling you today that I'm truly truly sorry...)" In my mind, his statement evidences 2 (two) of the reasons that support my belief, the man still lacks a total awareness of what he has done. First, he will not leave his victim alone. (Maybe he is trying to mitigate a civil lawsuit. I have no information on the extent of her injuries or, loss of income during recuperation from those injuries. But whether he acknowledges her power, she is entitled to recover for damages incurred.) Second, he conflates words of apology, for deeds demonstrating contrition. (To me, he appears more contrite for losing control at some perceived incitement by Rihanna than for battering her.)

Taking responsibility publicly is a good thing. Now if he took some actions to show he is remorseful, something like donating money to help people who are victims of domestic violence, or doing a public service announcement, something to bring light to the bigger problem, that would truly be meaningful.
