Rep Wasserman Schultz - PLAY BALL!
The premise of The New Agenda – being non-partisan – continues to spread — this time to the sports field!
Rep Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) has teamed up with Rep Jo Ann Emerson (R) to form a non-partisan women’s softball team. A group of 15 women senators and congresswomen from both sides of the aisle have been meeting at 7 a.m. each morning for the past month to practice.
Anne Schroeder Mullins reports on the team that surrounds Rep Wasserman Schultz:
She’s also in the bullpen as a backup pitcher, along with Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.). Emerson is the pitcher at the moment, and Rep. Laura Richardson (D-Calif.) plays first base. The group is currently “in negotiations over who’s going to catch,” Wasserman Schultz says. And the rest of the team includes: Reps. Shelley Berkley, Shelley Moore Capito, Kathy Castor, Kathleen Dahlkemper, Susan Davis, Donna Edwards, Ann Kirkpatrick, Betsy Markey, Betty McCollum, Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Grace Napolitano, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, Jean Schmidt, Betty Sutton, Nydia Velazquez and Sen. Susan Collins. First pitch is Cokie Roberts, and CNN’s Dana Bash is announcing.
Women just naturally know how to work together – even if it is across party lines. In February on this blog, Karen wrote about the passage of the Fair Pay Act which occurred when all 4 Republican Women Senators crossed party lines to vote for a women’s issue.
