This is our community here at The New Agenda. We are in this battle together to make our country better for the next generation.
This is our place to share our thoughts, ideas, disappointment and suggestions. Our blog is our place to shape the future together. We encourage all our members and viewers to submit blog pieces and share what you are thinking. Thanks to Benjamin, Karen and Monica for doing so this past weekend.
This is our time to have the back of the women of this country. Today starts the confirmation hearings of Sonia Sotomayor. We are asking that folks in The New Agenda community keep an watchful eye on the media and politicians for sexism – and if you see it, report it right away and we’ll spring into action together.
This is our community and our voices are being heard and helping to shape the national culture. Yesterday The Washington Times reported (hat tip to NBeang for sharing) that Sarah Palin will campaign for both Republican and Democrats citing:
“People are so tired of the partisan stuff — even my own son is not a Republican.”
Exactly! It is time for our country to focus on what unites us NOT divides us. It’s time for a new agenda.
And we need your help in our community and we move forward together. Go to our Community page and find out how you can get involved. Donate as part of our $18 for 18% campaign.
This is our community. We are in this together. Together we are strong. Join us!

Excellent piece to start the week.
Interesting that Palin will campaign for Republicans and Democrats – that action should shake things up a bit. What I would like to hear her say is that she will campaign for any candidate that promotes women’s rights issues, not just conservative principles. Nonetheless, excellent strategy – may serve to bring the country together, or separate us further along conservative principles. One way or another, a very savvy move on her part.
With respect to donating, the The New Agenda web site “About Us” section says:
“The New Agenda seeks to achieve safety and opportunity for all women by addressing issues which unite us and by advancing women into leadership roles.”
What issues do you mean?
How do they unite us?
How should these issues be addressed?
For example, since quotas are illegal, I do believe in affirmative action for women in employment. I look at the most recent EEO-1 report for the nation (http://www.eeoc.gov/stats/jobp.....ional.html) and note that women make up only 29% of Executive/Senior Level positions. I believe the EEOC should aggressively enforce non-discrimination and affirmative action laws so that women have an equal opportunity to advance in business. I believe this is a women’s right position.
Is the advancement of women in business an issue that the New Agenda supports? What policies, remedies or actions does it support in this area?
“Exactly! It is time for our country to focus on what unites us NOT divides us. It’s time for a new agenda.”
Well said!!
As far as I can tell, The New Agenda is all Palin all the time. There are other, more worthy women in the nation to talk about and rally around.
Marilyn,
I would encourage you to look at any of the major blogs or media and see which women are making the news right now: Sotomayor, Hillary and Palin. We are covering issues that are current, as well as encouraging blog pieces from our members such as the piece Saturday about a Green Party candidate from Maine.
If you have something that strikes you about another women in the public realm that is subject to gender bias, write us a note!
Amy,
With all due respect, I kind of agree with Marilyn. Let’s make news regarding some of the other women in the Obama administration, within Congress or within Business.
With the release of the latest EEO-1 data, we can focus on those industries that have the fewest women in executive and senior level ranks. Ask those industry CEOs to tell us why there industries are the worse.
I am Palin and HRC worn out.
I am not Palin and Hillary Clinton worn out. They are the examples for all of us of what a patriarchal system does to women who dare to challenge the power structure. They rip them apart. I am interested in women in other positions of political and corporate power and we discuss them here all the time. But, I am not as interested by those that are chosen to serve by the men in power as I am by those who stand toe to toe with them.
I enjoy the Palin and HRC pieces, AND I love LVL’s idea of taking to task industries that under-employ women in leadership postitions. Economic boycott is a powerful tool and women are the deciders where family spending is concerned.
Which companies do best in promoting women and representing them on their Board of Directors, so that we can reward them with our buying power?
