James Carville Defends RNC’s Video Comparing Pelosi to “Pussy Galore”

Democratic strategist and CNN commentator James Carville defended the producer of the Republican National Committee’s video that likens House Speaker Nancy Pelosi to the James Bond villain “Pussy Galore,” and railed against The New Agenda for protesting the video. Speaking on CNN’s Situation Room, Carville said:
It’s a YouTube, stupid, that’s all it is. And this New Agenda Crowd, they need to get a new agenda… This guy was just having a good time. He did absolutely nothing wrong…
OK, I lied. James Carville did and said no such thing. Or rather, he said almost exactly that, but he said it last December, defending Obama administration speechwriter Jon Favreau, who was photographed groping the breast of a cardboard cutout of then-Senator Hillary Clinton while a friend fed her beer.
What Carville actually said about the RNC video was this:
I think it’s hideous. And the fact that the RNC put this out — they must not want another woman’s vote for the rest of the time the Republican Party exists… It’s hideous. And I think they’re going to pay the price for this. This is just ugly, poor taste.
What’s the difference between the two situations? Why was the person in one case doing absolutely nothing wrong, and in the second case, doing something hideous? Could it be that for Carville, the judgement has nothing to do with fighting sexism and everything to do with political expediency and the fact that Carville is a Democrat?
The hypocricy of pundits and organizations that condemn sexism only when such action furthers their political goals is, for me, a compelling reason why we need The New Agenda. America needs a voice that defends the dignity of all women, from all political parties, all ideologies, and all past campaign teams. We need to unite behind standards of respectful treatment and insist that those standards apply to all. As we head into this last weekend before our fundraiser, please contribute what you can to help us be that united voice.

The New Agenda is one blog and group that should remain dedicated to opposing sexism and patriarchy. It’s the only national organization that covers stuff no one else is covering and it is taken seriously because it succeeds where the Third Wave failed.
Can hypocrisy get any ranker?? That’s a typical response from men who have allowed themselves to turn into pigs, ” its just in fun.”
I just got a fundraising letter from Carville. Oh, the irony.
If it’s got a postage-paid letter in it, tape it to a cinderblock and mail it back with a penny inside.

I just got that same letter from Carville. I replied by telling him how I am embarassed to call myself a democrat after the travisty that was the democratic primary.
Now we can also add Harry Reid to the list of sexist PIGS, not that he wasn’t already on it.
Reid refers to a conversation-in his new book, in which Senator Loyd Benson warns him that Barbara Bush is a BITCH!
God I hate being a democrat these days.
agree Juliette…. i don’t think the dnc has any clue what a bad spokesperson carville is for them -
What about Harry Reid, Amy?
Can you believe he had the nerve to actually put it in print?
Quoting a fellow democratic as refering to Barabara Bush as a Bitch, NOT COOL.
I think that we have to work hard to make it known that the B word is evey bit as offensive as the N word. To me it’s even worse because the B word often comes out of the mouths of cowards who might think the N word but would never dare say it for fear of consequences.
sorry missed that one…can you fwd a reference?
Judy, pointing out the hypocricy is beautifully done. how i enjoy Carville’s words next to the Favreau picture. thanks.
Thanks Judy for bringing this up. Partisan politics coming before human decency. It brings to mind the public opinion that all personal issues involving either celebrities or political figures is fair game.
