Now, after nearly four years of constant nightmares, bouts of depression and anxiety, the woman has been told by a judge that two transit workers who saw her being attacked had no obligation to do anything to help her other …

Larry Summers the magician: another $167 BILLION of taxpayer money disappears….
Taxpayer money….
While the country was busy being distracted by conversations about our President’s trip abroad and Wall Street bonuses, another $167 billion of taxpayer money quietly slipped out the door.
I must say that this has been one of the greatest orchestrated Houdini Acts with taxpayer monies that I have ever seen. Larry Summers and Timothy Geithner have managed to have the country transfixed on $165 million of AIG bonuses, while – POOF – $30 billion of taxpayers funds given to AIG goes out the door to domestic AND foreign …

A picture tells a thousand words
So here are two thousand words, all about the state of gender equality in the 21st century. Both courtesy of Tennessee Guerilla Women:
The G20 Wives — not husbands
Well, there are only two husbands anyway. Funny, that.
They let women in the room?
That’s Hillary at one of the G20 meetings — Hillary and a whole bunch of dudes. Wonder if she’s carrying her jar?*
*Jar: At an unnamed university several years ago, one female professor got so fed up with the sexism that at the next department meeting, she …

Ophelia to return on April 13th after pork rind incident
Ophelia's nemesis!
Poor Ophelia. She took the whole Larry Summers thing quite hard: A man taking $8 million of bonuses while most of her friends were deciding between paying for food, healthcare or their mortgage.
Ophelia’s way of dealing with this crisis: watch tv and eat packages of pork rinds. Several packages for several days on end. This morning, Ophelia was rushed to the ER and the doctors diagnosed the problem: acute pork rind intoxication. Very rare here in the United States, and fortunately not life threatening.
Ophelia has been advised to avoid …

What you can do about “Senator Slasher,” Hiram Monserrate
Silence is consent
Indicted last week on six counts of felony assault, and prohibited from having any contact with his alleged victim until December 2009, NY State Senator Hiram Monserrate has inexplicably not been forced to relinquish his senate seat as he goes to trial.
He’s a state legislator charged with a serious felony, and until that issue is resolved, he cannot be trusted to serve the public good.
Every time this story gets some traction in the press, Monseratte’s PR firm contacts the publication and attempts to intimidate them, as they did …

Did This Senator Beat Up His Girlfriend?
by Amy Siskind
A New York state senator faces felony charges for allegedly slashing up his girlfriend’s face—and some of the assault was caught on camera. So why is he still welcome in the Senate—and why are Democrats still holding fundraisers for him?
Mike Groll / AP Photo
Which is worse: political leaders remaining silent about a colleague who slashes his girlfriend’s face, or political leaders actively funding and supporting the criminal slasher? Well, …

“I didn’t agree to this”
The New Agenda is sponsoring a Violence Against Women forum on April 18, 2009.
Keira Knightley is appearing in a new ad campaign about domestic violence for the British charity Women’s Aid.
In the shocking two-minute film, Knightley is shown being brutally assaulted by her partner (warning! violent content):
At the end of the clip, you’ll notice that the tagline says “2 women die from domestic violence every week.” That’s the figure in the U.K. In the United States, it’s ten times that number: at least 20 women …

Larry Summers collects $8 million from Wall Street
To viewers that have been with us since 2008, you will recall that The New Agenda was the only national women’s rights group to speak out loudly and boldly when President Obama was considering Larry Summers for the post of Treasury Secretary. We issued a press release saying that Summers would put our economy in peril. Dr. Nancy Hopkins, who is a co-founder of The New Agenda was actually in the room at Harvard when Larry gave his famous speech about girls’ lower aptitude in mathematics and science. The …
