Ophelia's nemesis!

Ophelia's nemesis!

Poor Ophelia.  She took the whole Larry Summers thing quite hard:  A man taking $8 million of bonuses while most of her friends were deciding between paying for food, healthcare or their mortgage.

Ophelia’s way of dealing with this crisis:  watch tv and eat packages of pork rinds.  Several packages for several days on end.  This morning, Ophelia was rushed to the ER and the doctors diagnosed the problem:  acute pork rind intoxication.  Very rare here in the United States, and fortunately not life threatening.

Ophelia has been advised to avoid stress and relax for one week, and then to get a consultation on starting a more healthy life style.  The doctor gave Ophelia a recommendation:  Nancy Weiser of Weiser Choices.

port_nancyNancy and her husband Ned run a firm dedicated to improving people’s lives through their Wellness Programs. Here’s a bit about what Nancy does courtesy of the New York Times:

Ms. Weiser describes herself as a certified wellness counselor, with a specialty in “helping busy parents prioritize the health and happiness of their families in an overscheduled, hypercompetitive environment.”

What Ms. Weiser is offering is advanced home economics, complete with elaborate nutritional information, guidelines on how to make grocery lists and tips on how to jazz up broccoli. They’re precisely the kind of skills and support mothers used to get from each other, maybe even when they’d run into each other at all those volunteer-type obligations.

Another key component of Ms. Weiser’s instructional program: Teaching parents how to teach their children who’s boss. “I don’t buy into Jessica Seinfeld hiding nutrients or giving in to a child who won’t give in,” said Ms. Weiser during the part of the tour on condiments. “Bring your kids into the process — let them pick their flavor tahini or their Bragg liquid amino. Then it’s their responsibility to make it taste like what they want.”

Ophelia figues that we all could use some free advice on how to feel better about ourselves.  To cut down on the pork rinds and pick up some broccoli instead.

Please join Ophelia when she returns on Monday, April 13th from 10-11 p.m. EST on The New Agenda’s BlogTalkRadio show Chewing the Fat with Opehlia.

LOL! Get well soon, Ophelia. How can you eat those things? They’re like styrofoam packing peanuts!

Great subject, wellness. I look forward to it. Everyone needs to take care of themselves, mentally and physically, so we’re strong enough to fight the good fight.
