This morning The New Agenda sent out the following press release:
The New Agenda, a non-partisan national women’s rights group, is calling on Chris Brown and his recording label Jive to fund youth violence prevention education programs. Brown appeared in court this week on two felony charges – assault and making criminal threats – in the reported beating of Rihanna last month.
“Funding youth education for prevention of family violence is the best way Brown can demonstrate that he acknowledges the seriousness of his actions, and that he’s committed to making a …

Why some women owe Gov Palin an apology!
Judge Morgan Christen
While drinking my morning coffee today I was greeted by the most delightful example of women helping women courtesy of Stray Yellar Dawg. Hats off to Gov Palin for her leadership and courage.
Yesterday, Gov Palin picked Anchorage Superior Court Judge Morgan Christen to become only the second female Supreme Court Judge in the history of the State of Alaska. But Judge Christen isn’t just any woman. She is a pro-choice and was even on the board of Planned Parenthood in the 1990s. The other …

Slate’s XX Factor: what antifeminist women really think
I set out this morning to write about the depressing Rihanna-Chris Brown case, but I got distracted. My attention was caught by Samantha Henig’s post on Slate’s The XX Factor, in which she asks, “Should We Give Chris A Break?” Her answer, incredible as it may seem, is yes:
When I heard that Rihanna might be back together with Chris Brown, only a few weeks after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting her, I found myself hoping that she was right to forgive him, that he isn’t like those …

Using sexuality for power in the workplace
Lynn Tilton
I wrote about a story for our blog in December 2008 about a former work colleague and pal of mine, Lynn Tilton. Lynn and I worked together for five year in the in the mid 1990s. The blog piece titled Say it loud, say it proud girlfriend! featured a commanding performance by Lynn on CNBC’s Squawk Box.

MARCH IS WOMEN’S HISTORY MONTH
Today I spent my morning hanging posters of famous women around my son’s school. What a cool thing to watch the kids walking in the hallway and pausing for a moment to look and read. I think of the little girls who get to look at famous scientists, politicians, musicians, athletes and think to themselves: “hmm… this could be me.”
TNA co-founder Jenn Lee has frequently pointed out to me the importance of images that our children see. For young girls, think about …

The New Feminism: Breaking the Multicultural Relativism Taboo
The following is the opinion of the author, and does not necessarily reflect the opinion of The New Agenda.
When American feminists have broken their silence about the beheading of Aasiya Hassan, their reactions have tended to emphasize the commonalities in male violence against women across cultures and caution that it not distract our focus from this bigger picture. But in dismissing the importance of making distinctions among the cultural contexts in which such violence take place, are they playing into the hands of the politically correct crowd who don’t want …
