Oprah on Dating Violence
Oprah Winfrey has spoken out about dating violence and the Chris Brown assault on Rihanna. Winfrey and Tyra Banks hosted a live Oprah show from Chicago yesterday where the focus was dating violence. Winfrey dedicated the show “to all the Rihanna’s of the world.” The show has reignited the discussion of Brown’s assault on Rihanna, and at least one CNN male news anchor last night actively wished the topic would “go away.” Typical media reaction, wouldn’t you agree?
But it will not go away, nor should it. It has been painful …

Why Valerie Jarrett is Good for Women
We are the New Media.
Not The New Agenda, specifically, but bloggers, and particularly feminist bloggers, who have a powerful set of common interests and common goals. As print media shambles toward increasing obsolescence, eclipsed by the rapidly evolving world of electronic information, we who communicate in this medium have an opportunity to come together and speak in a single, booming voice that will reverberate all the way into the precincts of power.
Make no mistake: we will be heard. Which is why the choice of Valerie Jarrett as Chair of the …

The Daily Beast: Is Valerie Jarrett Anti-Woman?
The New Agenda’s Amy Siskind wrote the following piece that was published in The Daily Beast. Many excerpts were comments taken from The New Agenda blog.
President Obama’s choice to lead the newly created White House Council on Women and Girls has done virtually nothing to advance women’s rights. We should support her anyway.
Today President Obama signed an executive order creating a White House Council on Women and Girls. The President’s Council will have as its mandate: “To provide a coordinated federal response to the challenges confronted by women and …

Jarrett to lead White House Women’s Council
Valerie Jarrett
Valerie Jarrett, a senior advisor to President Obama during his run to be President, will be named tomorrow to oversee a newly created White House Women’s Council.
Now I know the reactions here will be mixed. Those of us who voted for President Obama will think this is a fabulous choice. Those of us who were fans of SOS Clinton when she ran will view a certain irony that Jarrett is given a top spot in the area of promoting women’s issues. Those of us who voted …

Another top woman drops out….
Susan Arnold
The Wall Street Journal is reporting today that another top woman in corporate America is stepping down. Susan Arnold, President of Procter & Gamble’s global business unit announced that she will leave after spending nearly three decades at P&G.
This is particularly discouraging. Currently, only 13 of the Fortune 500 CEOs are women –less than 3%. Women hold only 15.4% of corporate management jobs in the Fortune 500 Companies. This is also trending lower — down from 17.4% a couple of years back.
Why did Susan leave? …
