At an event this past week in Washington DC sponsored by Vital Voices Global Partnership, SOS Clinton was honored as a Global Trailblazer. Here’s a bit on Vital Voices:
Vital Voices Global Partnership is the preeminent non-governmental organization (NGO) that identifies, trains, and empowers emerging women leaders and social entrepreneurs around the globe, enabling them to create a better world for us all. We provide these women with the capacity, connections, and credibility they need to unlock their leadership potential.
Politico reported on the event and the first line of the story read:
Politics may divide, but women stick together.
Hey, now isn’t that what it is all about. Getting the women of this country to work together in an organized fashion and fight for women’s rights!
I was thrilled to see that the award of Global Trailblazer was presented to SOS Clinton by a prominent Republican woman, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Tex.). Here’s what SOS Clinton had to say:
“I want to thank Kay for being such a wonderful colleague and friend,” said Clinton in return. “I will do what I can to champion these issues and to use my own voice in support of women who raise their voices.” She added that governments and leaders “realize that no nation can be successful if it invests only in and listens only to one half of the population.”

Kay and Hillary are good friends and a great example. When Kay adopted a child, Hillary had all the women in Congress over to her house for a shower for Kay. I think it was Barbara Mikulski who told that story the day Hillary said good-bye to the Senate.
…and that’s why I will be voting for Kay for Governor!
What an inspiring story – and Our Girl richly deserved the honor.
I believe this is an example of the fundamental difference in the leadership of women vs men. I believe we are much less likely to be derailed by ego. Men see most things in terms of winning or losing — even their friendships revolve around competition. I think women are much more likely to be non-partisan and look toward the greater good of all.
Even though I am well aware of the lack of equal female representation in our government it still shocks me every time I see it in writing. Half of an entire population unrepresented!
Norway’s female representation in government is nearly 40%. Their primary political parties have all voluntarily adopted a gender equality policy.
Did you see that lovely quote from Ben Affleck at the Global Trailblazers awards in response to violence against women? It was just so refreshing to hear, it bears repeating:
“As along as violence against women—sexual or otherwise—remains strictly and exclusvely a ‘women’s issue’ it will always be an issue. We men must own this and we must recognize that it is vital to our own survival and we must help our brothers see it as such.”-Ben Affleck
That’s what a feminist looks like.
It is wonderful to see Hillary every single day as the natural leader she is. And she continues to grow and evolve. I am so proud of her. Even though some thought she shouldn’t have taken the Secretary of State position, I, for once, put all politics aside and just sided with my selfish interests: if I was going to see Hillary on the International stage being fabulous all of the time, well, that was good enough reason for me to be happy with her choice to accept SOS.
However, sigh, I still want to cry when I think of her being President……..
