Yesterday, I went to my local Starbucks to buy a cup of coffee. I happened to run into three women who are very involved in volunteer work in the community where I live. Armed with my hot-off-the-press TNA business cards, I went over to tell them about The New Agenda.
One of the woman, Sally, is from the U.K. and her immediate reaction was this: “you’ll never get women in this country to work together and stick together as a team. They just don’t know how to do it. Men …

Time for Ohio to have a woman senator
Ohioans have a rare opportunity to elect the state’s first-ever woman to serve in the United States Senate. Now that Sen. George V. Voinovich is retiring, the jockeying in both parties has begun.
Two women with track records of statewide support and a history of good service to Ohio should be serious contenders to run for Senate in 2010. Republican state Auditor Mary Taylor has performed …

Iceland’s New PM Ousts the Old-boys Club
Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir, Iceland's Prime Minister
Iceland’s economy has been shattered by the world economic crisis. Its banks’ debts amount to approximately six times the country’s annual GDP. In October, the Icelandic parliament passed legislation to mitigate the crisis and nationalize the country’s three largest banks. It acquired a $2.1 billion loan from the IMF, and raised interest rates to 18% in order to comply with the terms of the loan. By then, Iceland’s currency had tumbled to one third of its previous value.
On January 26, with inflation rising, the economy shrinking, …

The Fraternity of Leadership continues….
Major Bank CEOs yesterday on Capital Hill
Our country is an a financial mess of epic proportion. And who got us here? A fraternity of leadership that has led our country astray.
We see example after example of groups composed exclusively of men, or predominantly of men, running our financial system into the ground. See above the fearless leaders of Wall Street Banks yesterday on Capital Hill. The Wall Street Journal’s article title about sums it up: Lawmakers Pull Few Punches With Bank Executives . Meanwhile, where are …

Solis clears an important hurdle….
Rep. Hilda Solis cleared an important hurdle today as the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee cleared her nomination. Only two Republicans voted against her. Next step will be for Rep. Solis to go before the full Senate for a final vote, likely this week.
Rep. Solis has been held up by two issues: 1) her work for a pro-union group and 2) her husband’s unpaid taxes. Suffice it to say that Treasury Secretary Geithner, who himself did not fully pay Social Security and Medicare, was …
