The following Action Alert was sent to our members tonight.  If you would like to receive action alerts, member alerts and media alerts, send us an email at jointhenewagenda@yahoo.com.

BOYLES CALLS DIANA DEGETTE “VAGINA DEGETTE”

As members of The New Agenda, we will all work together to beat back sexism when it rears its ugly head.

The latest poster boy for sexism is Peter Boyles, a Colorado radio show host. Peter thinks it is “funny” to use a vastly inappropriate term about a highly respected Congresswoman, Diana DeGette. The New Agenda says NO WAY — referring to Congresswoman DeGette as “Vagina DeGette” is simply NOT acceptable.

BOYLES’ RANT CAN BE HEARD HERE

Ridiculing a woman because of her sex is a textbook example of sexism. Like other forms of bigotry, this behavior has no place in public discourse. It must not be tolerated.

Clear Channel Communications issued a statement stating that Boyles “agreed not use that term again” and that there will be no disciplinary action against him. That’s not good enough. Congresswoman DeGette, and all women, deserve an apology. And if Boyle refers to Congresswoman DeGette or any other woman that way again, he deserves to be fired.

TAKE ACTION

1.  JOIN THE FACEBOOK GROUP: “5,000 Women (and Men too!) Against Peter Boyles Disrespecting Women.”

2. CONTACT CLEAR CHANNEL COMMUNICATIONS to demand an apology and a commitment to fire Boyles if he repeats his offensive behavior.

Lisa Dollinger, Chief Communications Officer
200 East Basse Road San Antonio, TX 78209
phone: 210-822-2828
email: lisacdollinger@clearchannel.com

3. CONTACT THE SPONSORS OF PETER BOYLES’ SHOW. Ask them to withhold their advertising dollars until an apology is issued.

We applaud the Denver YMCA and Wally Park for already removing their ads from this program!

This is the kind of action that is needed all across the country. WE should not stand for this abuse any longer. Women are degraded by public figures every day. If white or black men were degraded like this, no one would get away with it. The administrators and the government would be outraged. This kind of thing has just been “another day at the office.” Good for New Agenda for paying attention and acting.

I sent the following to Clear Channel and we should consider sending individual complaints to the FCC:

I am disappointed and dismayed by Clear Channel’s weak response to its radio show’s blatant sexism on air. A promise not to repeat an offense is not enough. It appears that Clear Channel approves of such behavior. I encourage you to reconsider your response and require the radio host to apologize and receive some financial reprimand – the only type of reprimand that really impacts such a person and sends a message to all that sexism has no place at Clear Channel.

I wonder what the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) would say about Boyles’ statement?

    Thank you.

Thank you for the Action Alert. I wrote the following to Clear Channel:

    To Ms. Lisa Dollinger:

Please, consider that 1 out of 3 women will experience domestic abuse in her lifetime. Denigration and ridicule of women in the public sphere is partly responsible for that. Please enforce a culture of respect for all people at your radio stations. For my sake, for yours, for our daughters’ and our sons’ sake, I ask that you reconsider taking further action towards Peter Boyles.

Clear Channel Communications must commit to firing Peter Boyles if he repeats his behavior of ridiculing a public servant because of her sex, like he did recently. Clear Channel Communications must require a public apology from Peter Boyles for his use of denigrating language.

    Thank you

I called Harvard Square Retirement Community a few minutes ago. I spoke with a woman who said they had pulled their advertising from his show, despite hearing that he had apologized. They did not want to sponsor anyone who said things of that nature and an apology was not enough for them. I said, “You are a love.”
    Has Boyle actually “apologized”?

just a suggestion for these action alerts… can you state next time if she is in the House or Senate and what state she represents? To me, such information makes the alert more personal.

Congresswoman Diana DeGette is in the US House of Representatives. She holds these positions in the US House of Representatives:

    * Chief Deputy Whip
    * Vice-Chair, Committee on Energy and Commerce

She has served at least 6 terms in Congress.

    Here is her website: http://degette.house.gov/
and more information on her: http://www.degette.com/aboutDiana.htm

    An impressive woman!

Boyle’s denigration of her is abominable. Boyle should be fired NOW. No more chances. He’s already repeated his behavior after being warned.

Please take the action listed in this post!

Yes, but making women appear incapable of helping themselves is only half of it. It’s also talking about DECADES of Obama helping… o.O

I am appalled at that ad. Does Obama seriously think he can appeal to women by showing us we are not capable of helping ourselves??
