Storm Sparks Basketball

Sexism isn’t finished. The New Agenda has done their hardest to stop it. Why do sports video games only star men? No woman, what a surprise. People say ‘No Sarah Palin!’ But we need a woman in the White House! Whether it’s her or Hillary.

How do you think all those woman athletes feel? When they go watch TV they flip the channel to only find ‘Men’s College Basketball’, ‘NBA’ ‘NFL’ commercials and games. What about ‘WNBA’ or ‘Women’s College Basketball’? And when I play sports video games, all the teams are men – never women. Why can’t men try to be non-sexist?

Brava Amanda!!! We need women’s sports video games and televised women’s sports so WE can have sports heroes too! I watch Texas A&M Women’s Basketball every chance I get, but women’s sports don’t get very much air time. You’ve inspired me to write the networks and let them know I want more WOMEN’S sports to watch.

Here is an article you might like. Maybe these women will make us some new games!

Amanda, thank you for this excellent post. You are so right! Another thing that bothers me is the way women’s teams are always the “Lady version” — there’s the regular version, like the Cardinals, which of course is all men, and then the “Lady” Cardinals. Always, always, always.

Amanda keep asking these important questions. My generation hoped that we would win this fight for you, but we haven’t made it there yet.

With a new generation of powerful young women like you and my own daughter, you will certainly achieve equality for us at last!

    Violet,
You might like watching Texas A&M play! On the college website, teams are referred to as “Men’s Basketball” and “Women’s Basketball” and all are simply “Aggies.” Love that!

    Good post!

Our girl’s basketball team is really good, but they’re not given the money or the cheerleaders or all the attention that goes towards the boys team. But last week was really cool, the boys basketball team showed up all painted with school colors and carrying pom poms and they cheered the girls on. It was really nice to see the support.

    Great job, Amanda!!
I realized something last night with Jindel giving the Republican side.
That is that in order to keep the “Boys Club” alive they will give into having a “non-white” male rather that a WOMAN. The Dems did it with Obama; now it’s the Republican’s turn. Don’t get me wrong I like Bobby J. However, “He’s No Sarah Palin”. If they just spent the next few years supporting & grooming her; they’d be “back in the game”.
But NOoooooooooooo there’s no girls allowed in the Boys Presidential Club.
It just so happen’s that the “2″ people today with “BALLS” in Politics; just so happens to be women.
    ” You Betcha”
    Hillary for the Dems
    Sarah for the Repubs

    Amanda,

I’m not a sports fan, but I love watching women play sports.

I always want to hear what young women have to say about their experience of being female in our culture.

Thank you soooo much for writing a post for The New Agenda!

Amanda, I liked this post. Sarah Palin is a product of the women’s liberation movement. She was Sarah the Barracuda on the basketball court. Women are a team and the more we play on teams the better we get at being team players. As you can see Sarah is a team player – she never criticized Hillary Clinton or Geraldine Ferraro. It was great to see that quality in her.
P.S. You’re not an aspiring feminist – you are a feminist.

    Amanda,
Keep writing! At the U of Minnesota the women’s basketball team is a great crowd getter, very popular and supported. A local news anchor has made it a goal of his to help the publicity–because of his daughter.
