Meg Whitman
With so much new and noteworthy news flying around, we thought we would encapsulate some interesting developments:
Women on the ticket for Governor of California?: Meg Whitman, former CEO of eBay, is considering a run for Governor of California on the Republican ticket. Rumors also abound that Senator Dianne Feinstein might run on the Democratic side. Just what TNA loves to see – a women on both tickets!
Women close to surpassing men in workforce : The New York Times reported that the current recession may be the conduit for women to surpass men in the nations payrolls. Layoffs thus far in the recession have primary been in male dominated industries such as construction and the financial sector.
There were also two stories on a theme that TNA has opened in our recent press release in which TNA co-founder Amy Siskind said:
A fraternity of leadership has led our country into an economic crisis of epic proportions.
New York Times op-ed: In an piece titled Mistresses of the Universe
Nicholas Kristof posits:
Banks around the world desperately want bailouts of billions of dollars, but they also have another need they’re unaware of: women, women and women.
At the recent World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, some of the most interesting discussions revolved around whether we would be in the same mess today if Lehman Brothers had been Lehman Sisters.
The Times: In an article titled Age of Testosterone comes to end in Iceland:
Iceland, ravaged throughout history by volcanic eruptions and natural catastrophes, is struggling with a man-made disaster so overwhelming that the women are taking over. It is, they say here, the end of the Age of Testosterone.
Next week a newly minted left-leaning Government led by Johanna Sigurdardottir will start to tackle the tough agenda of cleaning out the old-school-chum networks that have led Iceland to the verge of bankruptcy.
Half of her Cabinet will be women.
Times, they be a changing. Let’s hope we can effectuate some change here in the U.S. sooner rather than later!

I love Meg Whitman (she’s a frickin’ genius), and I love that the Age of Testosterone is coming to an end in Iceland. Couldn’t happen to a nicer people. Here’s hoping it exports!
I have noticed that all of my employees at my parents’ store are women. I actually commented to them about this, and they replied, “We have had men apply, but not that many.” and overall, they found the women’s applications to be better than the men’s.
Very interesting read on the need for women in Wall Street.

The studies on testosterone are interesting, but this ignores what I consider a basic fact: Women, by and large, tend to think and act on a much higher moral plane than men (obviously there are exceptions on both sides).
It is not just men’s risk-taking and boasting rights that drove the banks (and the whole Enron generation of corporations before them) and their investors to ruin: It is the widespread acceptance among men in power of inordinate greed, lying, cooking the books, and a whole range of corrupt practices as norms of business behavior. I strongly doubt most women in similar positions would be so cavalier about other people’s money or their own moral standards.
It certainly seems true women nearly always go into politics primarily in order to solve problems and serve the public — Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton are excellent examples — whereas men nearly always do so in order to serve themselves and their ambition through power, prestige and money.
JB,
There’s support for your idea in a book iirc by Deborah Tannen called TALKING NINE TO FIVE, or a sequel to it. It talks about difference in ethics between individuals working together. The men use dishonesty and manipulation and the women fall for it. Amazing to me. Suzette Elgin had some similar material in one of her non-fiction books, though I’ve forgotten the title.
