Obama throws Democratic Women under the bus…again…

Jan 8, 2009 | 101 Comments

Well, thank goodness that NARAL made that early endorsement of then Sen. Barack Obama in the primary when he was running against Sen. Hillary Clinton. Looks like the chickens are coming home to roost (that didn’t take long now did it).
Today, President-elect Obama selected Virginia Governor Tim Kaine to be the next DNC Chairman. Yet again, Obama managed to glance over all the qualified women for this position (let’s recall that the Democratic Party just had 18 million vote for a woman).
Here’s a quick brush up on …

Good news and a “first” — Chief Performance Officer Nancy Killefer

Jan 8, 2009 | 8 Comments

I think it should be pretty clear by now that our U.S. government could perform a lot better.  To say the least.
And one of the things which has often kept change from happening is that “good old boys”, the entrenched and entitled, are often fond of the “status quo”, whatever that may be.  It’s what has kept them in office and empowered, and, lately, digging a deeper financial hole for ourselves.  A trillion dollar hole,  we now are discovering, with other trillions of dollars of debt to come.
Not a very good …

Teachings on domestic violence demonstrates Warren is the wrong choice for Inauguration honor
The New Agenda calls upon President-Elect Obama to withdraw his selection of controversial pastor Rick Warren in light of his dangerous advice to battered women.

TAKE ACTION TODAY – Congress votes on Equal Pay!

Jan 7, 2009 | 13 Comments

Historically, women suffer greater hardship in times of economic downturn. In these tough economic times, women must have equal pay for equal work for their own security and the security of their children.
“Workplace legislation coming to a head in Congress” writes Diane Stafford of the Kansas City Star.
The U.S. House is expected to vote on, and probably pass, the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act — two bills that would make it easier for workers to fight pay discrimination.
As debate moves to the Senate, though, we …

Obama should appoint a woman to Commerce, because jobs for women are not a given.

Jan 5, 2009 | 12 Comments

Women’s unemployment is rising as fast as men’s. The most recent version of Obama’s economic stimulus package, revealed Saturday, is expected to cost taxpayers $775 billion and create or preserve 3 million jobs, but it does nothing to allay concerns that women will not receive a fair share of job creation dollars.
Women typically suffer greater hardship than men in times of economic downturn. More women in government means more support for issues that affect women, according to the UNIFEM report released this Fall. For this reason, Obama should appoint a …
