Carol Bartz is the new CEO of Yahoo

“Two days after taking the job of CEO of AutoDesk, Carol Bartz was diagnosed with breast cancer. She missed one month for surgery and chemo, returned to work, and proceeded to whip an aimless, undisciplined company into shape…
“In her 14 years at AutoDesk, the company grew from a $200 million play to a $1.4 billion leader, and she developed a reputation as a tough leader with a penchant for salty language. Profiles across the Web make her out to be one part Steve Jobs, one part ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin.”
Well, she sounds like an interesting person to me! I’ll certainly be following this woman and company in the news.
Let’s give the company some positive feedback and press for their positive move. Maybe others will follow suit. You can show your support for Yahoo and their new CEO by posting a comment on their company blog. You do not have to log in to comment.

Congratulations to Carol Bartz and to Yahoo!

Well that’s cool. Thanks for sharing her achievement. I love how they included the part about “salty language.” I’m suddenly not so worried about my working class gutter mouth holding me back!
hmmm…the sound that always signals the arrival of Stone Cold Steve Austin is the sound of breaking glass.
maybe we should borrow his “music” to use every time a glass ceiling shatters.
Controversial articles that stir up more emotion seem to get a lot more posts than those that are about concrete info, including positive news. I wonder what’s up with that. This appointment is a really good thing for women. Let’s applaud it and comment over at Yahoo! It’s easy to get stuck in a mentality of being on the look out for problems, and Lord knows, there is no lack of them. But when something good happens for women, let’s acknowledge and celebrate it. I’m not saying that we should be happy every time someone throws us a crumb. But, as we work toward many goals, when something is achieved that is aligned with our goals, why not have a bit of a russle and a stir about it as well?!*
LOL, Anna, you just solved the problem with the mainstream media. They know controversial articles that stir up emotion, sell more papers and bring in more viewers. That is why they often run completely biased stories about certain political candidates. Add in the culture of misogyny and you’ve got a recipe for some really horrible journalism.
But today is a holiday so I think that is part of the reason there’s not much traffic on some of the websites.
She sounds like an interesting woman! A cross between Steve Jobs and Steve Austin, pretty cool! But it goes to show you, women have a long way to go when the highest form of praise leaves us forced to compare them to a couple of men.
A 60-year old woman coming after a 40-something guy to help the company after a stock price slide…I like that.
I hope she’s not like another woman I know, similar life challenges, who decided the best time saver would be to have her breast removed. Then she could get right back to work, although that draconian measure was not required for the type of cancer she had.
That same woman, when she was having children, carefully planned her pregnancies to end in Cesaerean sections during Reading Week.
It’s the first thing I thought of when I read this description of how quickly she got back to work. Was it one of those things where we have to prove we won’t inconvenience the men when we’re in jobs that usually go to men?
Oh and in case I didn’t bring you all the way down. :/ Go to the NYTimes site and see the pictorial of Obama’s team. Geez.
Sis – She may have had a lumpectomy. Women I know who’ve had their breast(s) removed often have breast cancer that’s at a stage that also requires follow up with chemo or radiation. Take heart, Sis. You could also think of it this way: She’s a survivor, which is a wonderful thing. And, as far as your last post: Don’t worry. You didn’t bring me “all the way down” since you forgot to post the link to the NY Times site, Thank Dog!
Thanks for this good news. She sounds like she will make Yahoo an interesting place to work. Maybe we should all use Yahoo search now instead of that one that starts with a G?
