Ledbetter one step closer to passage!

|Our friend and colleague, Beverly Neufeld, sent us the wonderful message below. Beverly is co-chair of the Equal Pay Coaltion NYC, and a contributor to our blog and former guest on Chewing the Fat with Opehlia.
Before you leave for the weekend and the start of an historic week ahead, we want to give you a quick update and share great news.
Yesterday, the Senate voted 72-23 to advance the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act to a floor debate. The vote is expected to follow soon!
Although this is an impressive margin, during the debate opponents may try to impose weakening amendments. Our position has always been, and our message must be: Pass Ledbetter without amendments!
NYWA and EPCNYC will be sending an action alert next week, but if you want to act sooner, below is one from our partner, the National Women’s Law Center. Also below is a request to participate in a survey on pay equity from Carolyn Sevos carolyn@intracommunities.org

The National Women’s Law Center notes that:
“Women in this country still make only 78 cents for every dollar earned by men. And for women of color, the numbers are even worse. This is our chance to make a difference — now, when the economic downturn means women are depending on every penny of their income.
