The Ms. fiasco has bubbled up to CNN and they’re doing a story on it this week. Amy Siskind, the president and co-founder of The New Agenda, was interviewed on tape this morning at the CNN studio. Kathy Spillar, the executive editor of Ms., will also appear in the story.

The segment is scheduled to air between 6 and 9 am this Thursday on the American Morning show. We should know a more precise time tomorrow. Portions of the segment will also be repeated on CNN throughout the day, and we’ll put up a video here on the blog as soon as possible.

Stay tuned!

**************************************************************************
UPDATE:

The CNN piece will be aired at 6:10 a.m. and 8:10 a.m. EST on Thursday.

Congrats! Alot of us contacted Ms. Magazine and let them know that we were very displease with their cover and now they know we aren’t joking about this!

Hey Amy, can you give us a hint as to how this morning’s taped interview felt? CNN has been so biased, I hope you felt you were treated with respect. Of course, there’s no way to know how the interview will be edited, but still, I hope that you came away feeling like your there was space for your voice to be heard.

I think it went very well – subject to what they cut and paste. I always prefer live, but this subject matter was too important to turn down. The interview was 30 min and likely will be cut to 1-2 min so who knows that will come out of it.

And CNN did ask me to come back in the future to discuss TNA and what we are up to.

I hope you taped it so we can get a transcript of the 30 minute interview.

Fantastic. Thanks. I can’t tell you how many people don’t know the jon “groper” favreau story. And now the “girly dog” story (see TN Guerilla women).

Without all the back stories no one will know how outrageous the MS. cover is.

Amy that is so great. I can’t wait to see the tape.

    Congrats Amy
I look forward to you doing “us” proud.
I’m off to work today; but I ask all you to help out on the Senate Seat Replacement issue.
Add Senator Schumer to your list of “out-reaches”.
He’s going to want a strong “Qualified on Day One” partner.
Senator Boxer passionately brought up her “Global Woman’s” work.
On the house side working with her is Carolyn Maloney.
Please watching Senator Clinton yesterday was so “bitter sweet”.
It however, is happening again with Carolyn Maloney.

I hope they will be interviewing other groups as well. It never looks good when only one group is interviewed, because then they can discount what they said as just being from one group.

Perhaps Amy can get someone else from another women’s organization an interview, too.

  • Zee said:

I don’t know if that should be Amy’s role. We are the ones who should be constantly clamoring to get several women spokespeople on the air. I think we should regularly pester Greta on Fox and Rachel Maddow on MSNBC to have a regular panel of women experts to convene when the latest O-utrage occurs. We should cite the all male panels whom the craggy male pundits convened to determine there was no sexism in the MSM.

I still think there needs to be a panel discussion on why Jon Favreau still has a job.

  • Zee said:

Amy, if you can, get that image of Hillary being groped and disrespected at Favreau’s party on the air!!! Ask if Ms. Magazine plans to name Jon a feminist next.

  • Anna said:

Amy, thanks for the update on how the taping went. Geez, half and hour cut down to a minute or two. I hope it’s the minute where you burst open your suit jacket to reveal the t-shirt below with a photo of Hillary Clinton that said: “THIS is what a real feminist looks like?” Also, very cool that they said they’ll want you back to talk more about TNA. Way to go!

Zee – I agree. None of us should feel complacent i.e. that Amy or someone else will do for us what we ALL must be trying to do. But, since she is a figurehead as the President of TNA, she is the one who will more likely get the gigs and the visibility. But, we should all be clamouring every freaking day, as well!

Amy – As Wednesday winds down I’m thinking very much about you and tomorrow’s CNN interview. I hope they will select an excerpt you feel is fair and representative. Either way, Congratulations are in order. I can’t wait to see the clip.

    Onward!

The piece will also air live at 6:10 a.m and 8:10 a.m. EST tomorrow.

I just saw it. Amy, you were smooth and convincing, and the segment certainly favoured your point of view.

    Nice work.

The part I loved was the claim, attributed to Kathy Spillar, that magazine subscriptions are up with the “Special Inauguration Issue.”

That’s kind of like saying, “We sell WAY more organic, fair trade coffee since we dropped the price and stopped using organic, fair trade beans.”

She also admonished the magazine’s detractors that they should “read the issue.”

Right—because the feminism industry has to keep feeding itself, after all.

Kudos to Amy for braving the lion’s den and coming out unscathed. CNN is now worse than MSNBC in their slavish adulation of Obama. What was glaringly absent from the piece was any mention of the sexism exhibited by Obama’s supporters during the campaign, and at times by Obama himself, the “sweetie” comment being just one small example. Also missing was the fact that Obama is not on record calling himself a feminist, nor is his wife.

Boy you made the face of feminism look bad. Basically you sent the message that men were not needed (or wanted) in the fight for equality. You know, slavery would not have been abolished without the help of Whites; and women would not be able to vote without the help of men. Until there is a united front, of BOTH men and women, you should expect feminism to fail. Don’t you want to involve the people that are most guilty of doing the descriminatioin? Remember… Men of Quality Respect Women’s Equality.
