Dear Hillary,

As the old adage goes, a thing must be imagined before it can be achieved, and your candidacy allowed tens of millions of girls and women to imagine that they, too, might reach for heights they had previously thought inaccessible to them because of their gender.

The cumulative effect of your candidacy and your presence on the national stage as a powerful role model for all women will continue to unfold for years or perhaps decades.

It’s been an eye-opening couple of years since all of this began. It woke us up. It woke the women’s movement up after a long period of dormancy. We won’t go back to sleep. We’ve only begun to fight.

Today, with the announcement of your appointment to Secretary of State, we can look back and celebrate each of the battles you fought on the way to where you are, because with each battle, you advanced the cause of women that much further down the field.

I offer my heartfelt congratulations for all you’ve achieved. As Secretary of State, I know that you will enjoy the respect and admiration of the international community, and that you will help to restore the world’s respect and admiration for your beleaguered nation.

Thank-you for all that you have done, and all that you will do.

—o—o—o—

Please add your congratulations below, and we’ll print them and send them to Hillary in a card.

Congratulations, Madame Secretary. You could have given up after the horrible treatment you received from your own Party during the primaries, but you followed your own advice, and you just kept going.

I wish you all the best in your new position, and I know that you will, indeed, bloom (magnificently) where you are now planted.

Yeah to my heroine Hillary. Your help is so needed to steer our country’s image back in the right direction.

P.S.: Ted Kennedy et al don’t deserve you in the Senate. Let’s see where that health care committee gets to now!

Congratulations Hillary!!! It brings tears to my eyes knowing I will get to watch you every single day make a positive difference in people’s lives. I’m so glad that you have the entire world stage now to continue your lifetime of work for all of us. I know somehow that even this position of Secretary of State won’t be the last chapter for you. I’m keeping the faith that you will still be our first woman president. Life is strange in its twists and turns.

We are all so lucky to have you!! May God bless you in your new role!!!

    Dear Hillary,

As I have told you in person, there is no one in this world who I admire more than I do YOU!! You are my HERO! You are my CHAMPION!!

Obama FINALLY has used good judgement in picking you for Secretary of State. As someone with no experience and not a single accomplishment, Obama desperately NEEDED strong, experienced and tough people to fill his cabinet. For all intents and purposes, you will be answering that 3am phone call and will be our face and voice to all the world!

I am SO PROUD of you, dear Hillary. I love, admire and respect you. Congratulations on your new position. I have to admit, though, I will miss you desperately as Senator from my State of New York.

Volunteering for you for 17 months during your presidential run, I had the honor and pleasure of meeting you, President Clinton, and Chelsea many times. As Secretary of State, I doubt our paths will cross and that makes me sad. But I know you are what our country so desperately needs, and I feel much safer with you at the helm!!

    Love Always

    Dear Hillary,
You are, in my estimation, the most heroic figure in modern American politics. Congratulations on your appointment.

I hope you understand that there are a few of us in the world who have some inkling at the dear price you’ve paid, and continue to pay, made only in recognition of the importance of what you’re fighting for.

Wishing you the greatest success in this new arena of your public endeavors. I have complete confidence that you will acquit yourself as admirably there, and as selflessly, as you always have.

You inspire hope in my country – no small feat these days, among those of us with an eye for the landscape.

Thanks Hillary for your patriotic commitment to this nation. After the manure shoveled onto your head for two years – as politics of “the old” – by Urkel, I am so impressed you could spring back and rise again. You turn the other cheek, really remarkable.
I salute you, I admire you and I voted for you! And donated! I want you in the Oval as soon as possible.
Bless you and here’s some stamina for those overseas trips.
    We love you!

    Dear Senator Clinton,

Thank you so much for all you have done for our country and the great state of New York. I am so proud of you. You have been a wonderful Senator for my state. Thank you for fighting for us and thank you for walking through fire during the primaries. You blazed a trail for our daughters and endured a great deal of sexist bigetry in the process.

Witnessing the why you were treated by the press, MSM and members of your own party was an eye opener for a lot of women. Many of us didn’t expect progressives to be so sexist. But we will continue to fight for gender equality, including the equal treatment of women and girls in every venue, and for a government that resembles the electorate. Thank you for leading us in this endeavor.

I know you will be a wonderful Secretary of State. You will be on the world stage representing our country in making possitive change by repairing our international standing in the world. Congratulations! I look forward to watching you in your new position.

    Sincerely,

    Kendall Johnson

Carol, what a heartwarming tribute to Hillary!

And I so agree with this: “For all intents and purposes, you will be answering that 3am phone call..”

And on that note, ***Thank you, Hillary**** for all you endure in service to the greater good!

It still is difficult for me to hear Obama referred to as president-elect because I truly believe he with the help of the DNC and the MSM stole the primary from you.

You, however, are a gracious and resilient woman who responds when duty calls.

    Thank you, Madam Secretary.

Hello, New Agenda…we could use a “heads up” or suggestion forum, if possible.

I posted a heads up about Ludacris in the thread below, and in an attempt to be somewhat on topic, I’m posting this one here.

Slate has a vile article out about people “worrying” about Hillary’s appointment as SOS and “reassures” them that Obama has taken her machinations into account and has counter measures to any “manipulations” by her.

The entire article is about how her “manipulations” are to be expected, but Obama and the guyz have got it covered.

    http://www.slate.com/id/2205746/

I would hope that The New Agenda would put forth a press release denouncing this sorry example of sheer misogyny.

  • KendallJ said:

I wouldn’t say it was misogynistic, but a bit sexist in the way he keeps pouncing on the subordiate aspect and how the General and or Obama will keep her in line.

Good luck Hillary! Still plan to have private security guards (mercenaries) for State in hostile areas??
PS ~ please tell the Saudis to let their women drive, they will listen to you, you are Obama’s gal now, lock stock and barrel.

    Zee-
This isn’t the worst thing I have ever seen but I do get your point. By the time you are done reading the article you can’t help but picture Hillary as Cruella Deville standing behind poor Obama’s chair tapping long blood red fingernails along the back of it, which I think is what the writer intended.

    Zee,

Wow, this guy is a piece of work. Slate says he can be reached at war_stories@hotmail.com. I just sent him the following e-mail.

FYI Mr. Fred Kaplan: Powerful women like Hillary Clinton do the right thing for the right reason just as frequently as powerful men like James Jones do. I suggest you devote some of you time to introspection and maturing activities.
